Traditions

Wonder if a bottle would have been thrown at the ref for the "helmet to helmet" if the VThug game last year was at BDS?

How bad would the last 3 games of 2006 have sucked had we beaten ND and gone into dawgsRawwsum 10-1? Even worse than it already was. UGA that year was probably the most painful loss of my fandom... then the Wake debacle the following week. 3IAR by 3 points. And ND being only by 4. Amazing how close that was to an incredible (ly lucky?) year.

Edit: Hopefully the tradition of loosing heartbreakers to opponents who have no business being in the game is over.

Beej, if you were to have thrown something at some point in the past, would you have thrown that something because you thought the helmet-to-helmet call was BS, or would you have thrown it because you were under the impression that a late hit was being called and couldn't hear above the booing? I didn't know until after the game that the call was helmet-to-helmet.

It's hard to top the running down the Hill in Death Valley.

Only in the backwaters of South Carolina, where genuine hills are a rarity, is that exciting. Of course all the clem's son fans get worked up over their team rubbing a rock too. I think they should stick to moonshine and being the friendliest fans in the South.

I just don't get that tradition. LSU on the other hand? The tiger going round the field. Their band marching out and playing to each corner of the stadium: that is pretty cool. OU and F$U do it well too.

As far as student body traditions, Tech is easily in the top 5. There are simply too many to list. Sports related traditions alone at GT are not top 5, but still very respectable.

I just realized that I didn't know that either, and I was watching the game at home. I think my profanity may over drown out the call. It's still a **** call.

It's a crappy rule and maybe a crappy call, but it would have been a MUCH MUCH worse call if it was a late-hit call, because he was definitely not out of bounds. He was close though, and everyone's mind immediately jumped to that, and I think that's why it got as bad of a reaction as it did(ie multiple people throwing stuff on the field.)

I was pretty close to that play in the West stands and I remember it pretty well. It was so obvious to me that it was in bounds that I assumed it was a shot-to-the-head call. I was not any less pissed off. I think it's totally unreasonable to expect the defender going at that speed and in such a crucial play to avoid any incidental helmet-to-helmet contact. The brunt of the hit was not helmet-to-helmet. Not to mention that, like Tyrod, Lady Quinn was not hurt whatsoever, at least as well as I can remember. It's always frustrating to get a roughness-type call when the "victim" is bouncing around laughing about it. (That's directed more at Tyrod of course.) I was so pissed off. The best thing Chan ever did was beat those bastards by 30 points in South Bendover, triggering the avalanche that was their worst season ever. I may never do this again, but here's to you, Chan!

(And in further tribute, I will not be driving after this post!)
