Isn't there some story where, before the game where Navy took down Notre Dame, Weis said to Johnson, "Paul, why don't you pass the ball? You'll never win with that offense." or something similar? Then CPJ reminded him of that line after the game.

Am I making this up? I don't think so.... Can someone post the story or link to it if possible? I know it's out there but can't find it.

I don't know how accurate the story is but I do know that I was jumping up and down when CPJ's Navy team beat Notre Dame for the first time in 40+ years.
 
There was a rumor, but it was debunked this past May on the GT coaches caravan. Some font asked CPJ about the rumor one on one and he said it didn't happen.
 
he did tell Chuck Amato after the Navy-NC State game in 2002ish, "i won't be here forever and I wont forget this". Completely unsubstantiated rumor too.

I've heard this from many a source, so I'm going to assume this true. I want to say Wes even mentioned it during the F$U game last year. Paul Johnson is not a man that you want to give any extra ammo to.

65-19. Amato left Philip Rivers in for 3 full quarters and let him throw for a school record 5 TDs. His 4th TD was an 88 yard bomb to put State up 51-12 early in the 3rd. His 5th TD pass put State up 65-12 late in the 3rd.

The following quote may not be exactly accurate, but it is fairly close .....

1999 ..... Paul Johnson took his Div. I-AA Georgia Southern Eagles to play Dennis Erikson and nationally-ranked Oregon State.

The game ended 48 - 41 as CPJ's Eagles ran out of time deep in Oregon State territory. If I remember correctly, Georgia Southern had 400+ yards rushing and 500+ yards of total offense.

As CPJ shook Coach Erikson's hand, he said, "I look forward to playing you again in the future." Erikson's reply, "No you don't ..... It ain't gonna happen."

..... of course, it never did. I do not blame Coach Erikson.

What's funny is that we might end up playing Oregon St. in the short future if the ACC picks up the Sun Bowl like rumors say (the bowl O. St played in last year). Pity Erikson left already.

You beat me to it Berry. Oregon State is a better team now. I like the idea of the Sun Bowl. I want to run into UCLA though if Tech plays in that game.
 
I posted the Weis rumor and said I didn't know if it was true or not when I posted it. Later, I posted that I asked PJ about it at the caravan down here in Macon and he said it wasn't true.
