That's right: The oddsmakers chances that we win the NC are the same as Duke's chances to win the ACC.

Vegas knows that Clemson fans bet more money on Clemson to win the MNC than we bet on GT to do the same thing. Although they're posting "odds", they're really just balancing the books where as many people bet for Clemson as against.

I think the Clemson fans who take that bet know they're being foolish, but do it anyway.

Thanks to "the wisdom of crowds", balancing both sides of the betting pool usually ends up being the same as picking the odds that someone like Clemson will be in the championship game. In this case, I think it's off a good bit, and just showing that some people in South Carolina are throwing their money away.

Sometimes, the crowd gets it really wrong. It's not that hard to find examples of the foolishness of crowds by looking in the news or in history books.

I agree with all that you said, except the part about the Clemson fans knowing that they are being foolish. I think there is a relatively significant portion of them who think that with Dabo at the helm and the best collegiate player of all-time in CJ Spiller, they will go undefeated or close to it.

Exactly! Since VT is everyone's darling, they think GT will a tougher time of winning the ACC because of that hurdle. If GT were in the Coastal I bet our odds are better.

Guys...we're in the Coastal. Clemson is in the Atlantic.
 
I have a feeling that our inability to remember the division names & teams will spark a much overdue realignment thread.
 
I agree that it makes no sense, but at the same time I hope we get it right when talking to outsiders. It doesn't look good when you're confusing which division you're in.

You're right, that's why I always say "our division" or "Clemson's division." Of course when people ask me "who do you think will win the Atlantic?" I'm pretty screwed.

It's easy to remember. The school in Atlanta is not in the Atlantic.

Now you just have to remember who we're grouped with.
