JSU's Coach Crowe talks about how they can beat Tech

Take everything you are handed. Use everything.

I expect them to be motivated as much as possible for EVERY game this year.

+a lot. Yes yes yes. The more we play motivated, the more we stay motivated, the more it will carry over into the following games.

You're missing my point. A good team doesn't need outside sources to be motivated. A good team will motivate itself. You want a team that doesn't need "bulletin board" material to find the motivation to work hard and win games. We sure as hell shouldn't need one for our first game.

"Well, we're going to march our sorry butts into Bobby Dodd Stadium and let GT pull our little girl panties down and spank our ass in front of a packed stadium. Then we're going to say THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER! After that, we're going to fill out applications to be GT's waterboys for the rest of the season because quite frankly, our football team sucks!"

is that really what Richt said??? wow

I got the point. My point was that, regardless of if we need it or not, we use it.

I agree, and think that we SHOULDN'T need outside motivation, but that if some comes around, we shouldn't ignore it, and use it to our advantage.

Who said we needed it? But if it's out there, why not use it? You're thinking about this too much.

BTW I think Crowe meant this as cumulative. You know, if we aren't in the game and playing down to their level, and THEN we hand them the ball twice, they can win. But we need to do both...play like crap and turn it over.

Who said we needed it?
Exactly. I said:

IF our team needs such motivation from the head coach of an underdog team, our season is in big trouble.

But if it's out there, why not use it?
That is a pretty stupid concept*. I can fill up my car with diesel fuel because "it's out there" but it ain't going to get me very far if my car needs unleaded. I use things when I need to, not just because they are available.

*edit: unless you are in 'survival mode'

You're thinking about this too much.

I doubt I'm thinking about this too much. Some of you seem to think what Crowe said is a big deal. I would completely disagree.

Who, besides me, would take a 20 - 0 Tech win over JSU right now? ;)

By and by, CPJ pretty much predicted what he thought Crowe (JSU in general) would say/think. This in his press conf from yesterday:
CPJ said:
I guarantee everyone on Jacksonville State's team thinks they are going to come in here and win the game. Our player's hopefully believe they are going to win the game. That is why you play.

They'd have a better chance if they all prayed to Odin and Thor to smite their enemy.

I interpret this as praying that Tech fans will eat at the Varsity, follow that up with alcohol pre-and during game, followed by a huge dinner, resulting in an intestinal Ragnarok causing them to miss the second half of the late night west coast game.

Couple days, it won't matter. When we hit the stadium, Jax State might as well be Florida State. 1-0 sounds delicious.

So the game's NOT at noon??
Screw it, ArchiTECH is going at noon.

Who's with me!?

love,
ArchiTECH

Whatever his motivation our team should not take this as bait and return remarks. JSU needs all the motivation they can get.

Ridiculous analogy, but I'm sure you know that.

I don't think what he said is a big deal, as I said in my comments above. I think he meant it cumulatively and that if we play poorly they can win. There's nothing wrong with that.

Touché. The analogy is as ridiculous as your concept of "use it because it's there".

Then what are we arguing about? If you agree with me that what Crowe said isn't a big deal, why are you in favor of using what he said as a means to motivate our team? You (as well as others) are suggesting that the players use that as motivating bulletin board material just "because it's there". That will make it into not only a big deal but a laughing stock of every opposing team we play since it makes it look like our players need motivation from the outside in order to play their best.

As I said from the get go, IF our players need that kind of crap to motivate them to win the first game of the season, they are in for a rough ride through December.

Of course, I'm not saying this is a for sure win. I'm just hoping that CPJ has taught the players how to motivate itself and stay motivated throughout the entire season without the need to be given anything by our opponents.

One of the biggest differences between good and great is your competitiveness and your mean streak. We probably didn't need this to win the game, but now I want to use it to beat the holy hell out of them and leave absolutely no doubt.

The biggest difference between Jordan and other great players was he took it personal if you thought that you could hang with him. I want that kind of nasty out of the team this year.

A perfect classic example was Ali punishing Floyd Patterson in the say my name fight. He didn't need it to win the fight, but using it as motivation put an exclamation point on the difference between him and every other fighter out there at the time.

...but now I want to use it to beat the holy hell out of them and leave absolutely no doubt.

"Leave absolutely no doubt" part can be done without needing to "beat the holy hell out of them" and should be done using the team's season goals as a motivator... not what the other coach said.

Oh Lord, what will our players do if Dabo Swinney (or any Clemsuck player) doesn't say anything stupid before next Thursday?
