Missed Facemask Call (USC vs. NCSU)

Absolutely a facemask (any time you tackle by grabbing the helmet, it is by name a "facemask.") He had both hands on the guy's helmet when he yanked him down by his head. And the worst part is that the ref (correct me if I'm wrong) did one of those jobs where he looked at the play, reached for his flag, but then did a quick "eye contact and body language" conference with the other refs, and decided that the flag would NOT be thrown.

Or maybe I just imagined that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that plays such as that are not reviewable? If not, I don't know why not. Esp when the safety of a player is involved, as long as they have an official in a booth with expensive video monitoring and replay capability, why not let the guy upstairs call something if it's that clear????!
They are not...and they really can't be. EVERY play has some sort of penalty that could be called. If every play was reviewable, the red flags would turn green from hitting the ground so often.

Except each coach only gets a limited number of challenges in college. One per half I think?

No, but I think facemasks should be booth reviewed for accuracy. Just as this one should have.

And yes, I saw the ref do the same thing. It's like he was going to throw the flag, but remembered which team was which and held back.

**** the SEC.

I'm not asking for the booth to have unlimited review. I'm talking about a personal fouls exception for physical-type fouls that put player safety at issue. If a booth ref sees an eggregious personal foul and there is no question that it should have been called, but was simply not seen, why not let them call it if they can do so in a reasonable time frame? Missed calls ought to be part of the game for stuff like holding or pass interference, but twisting a guy's head like a rodeo calf with both hands and millions of fans watching it and it not being called should not be part of the game.

Then again, if they implemented my plan, they would find a way to botch that too, so maybe it's best to leave it alone.
