I hate to admit it but based on the results of week one the SEC is better than the ACC. At least none of their schools lost to 1-AA schools. A hard slap across the face goes out to the following losers:

NC State
Duke (earned a back handed slap as well)
Virginia (same as Duke)
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
Maryland

It was apparent before the season began they were better.
They have Florida, and that's hard to compete with regardless. Not to mention Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, all in the top 11.
Every team in the sec BLEW OUT their opponent yesterday
Miss. st. throttled some team 45-7 I think and Vanderbilt won 45-0. Heck even Kentucky shut out Miami of OH and put up 40+ on them. Auburn was the only one that struggled a bit but in the end they pulled away won 37-13.
We as a conference as a whole have a long way to go.

Seriously, was there some question on this? The SEC is the best conference in college football, no matter how much some like to argue it.

I thought our conference had made some improvements in the coaching category...however, that has definitely NOT translated into much on-the-field success. Well, everyone except for US!

Screw Groh. Screw Duke in general (even an Almighty SEC coach can't even top Richmond with those losers). Screw Clemson for hiring a quirky WR's coach. Screw BC. Screw NC State for their stupid howling sound bites and the hiring of a mediocre as hell coach, Tom O'Brien. Screw the Fat Fridge and the entire ****-crap area aka Baltimore. Screw Jim Grobe...you only won because everyone else sucked so bad. Screw Beamer Ball (note to Beamer...there are other ****ing ways to score rather than special teams). Screw Randy Shannon for hiring Patrick Nix. Screw Bobby Bowden for being a pompous ass little bitch.

I'm beginning to hate our conference.

Every time this comes up after a bad week or bowl season for the ACC, sobriety arrives in the form of what is a very close head to head record. That's how it should be measured and not from some crazed big stadium low SAT cro-mag redneck, yelling from his double wide. Yes the SEC is the strongest conference, but not in some dominating hands down obvious way, which is how it's usually presented.

Monte Kiffin legitimizes UT. Can't wait to see what he has in store for Florida.

I said to some friends before the season that UT would contend for the SEC East. I still stand by that. UT will be ready for UF.

Yes, the SEC is a better football conference than the ACC. This is without question. Has been forever, except in very odd years.

However, this is one weekend, for pete's sake. If the middle teams don't improve over the next few games, then, yes, we will be having a down year. We have a chance to have 3-4 very good teams this year: GT, CU, VT, UNC, FSU and Miami are all candidates. If 2-3 of those can crack the top 10 this year, we will have improved by the metric that seems to be applied to the SEC most years.

And the Vols... :wow:

Was definately impressed with the first game under Kiffin... 650 yds of offense? who knew crompton could even throw? damn!

side note on the recovering program topic, Michigan looks to be on the right track this year as well and ought to be using a two qb system with robinson and forcier.. i think they will take down notre dame, somebody has to

If you're talking only about football talent, I agree. Otherwise, absolutely not.

I agree with the theme of this post; but not all the teams you have listed here. Va Tech especially is not the problem in the ACC; Duke, Virginia and Maryland are. The fact is that Duke has not played like a BCS conference team in a long, long time. NC State started slow last season, and played as well as USCeast this week, which was crappy. The real question is not whether the SEC is better than the ACC, it obviously is. The real question is whether the ACC should be a BCS conference, for the last 5-6 years they certainly have not played like a top conference. When is the last time the ACC had a top 10 team that actually belonged there? At the top of the conference I think GT, VT, FSU, and maybe CU (we'll see) should be ranked in the top 25. On the bottom there are about 3-4 teams that Vandy would simply dominate. That makes the ACC sound more like the Mountain West or Conference USA than a BCS conference. Honestly, the ACC is as pitiful as the PAC-10 was a decade ago. Hopefully GT or someone will step up like USC did for the PAC-10 and make the conference legit.

I think we're a bit premature here, aeromech. The ACC just sent 10 teams to bowls last season, and had one of the best OOC record, if not the best, of any conference. Let's avoid the ESPN mistake from LY and give the season a chance to shake out first.

Yes, the ACC sent 10 teams to bowls and beat:

Navy
Wisconsin (who finished 7-6)
Nevada (who finished 7-6)
Cincinnati

Maybe you are right that the ACC is not as bad as the PAC-10 WAS, but it is not as good as the PAC-10 IS.

I think his point was, you can't tell that much after one week.
