301 yds rushing, 6.1 yds/carry, 418 yds offense

We should have been more consistent, passed the ball better and punched more drives in for TD's, but it's not like we didn't do ANYTHING.

We only had 207 yds rushing, 4.0 yds/carry, and 298 yds offense last year against Clemson and their Defense is probably better this year.

I'm not drinking the Kool-aid. I'm very concerned especially with the schedule coming up. Just trying to take a step back and look at the big picture.
 
so let's go to bed (but not together) knowing that UGag has to wait AT LEAST 9 days to equal our current win total, and if we are fortunate that won't even do it.

Me too, actually. I've always found the average of any stat to be kind of stupid. There are much better ways to describe what actually happened in a game.
 
I'd be more concerned if we weren't putting up big yards. Been way overdue for the special teams units to help out the team as well.

Good news is that the team's biggest issue really seems to be a lack of concentration and focus. I also think that CPJ can fix this. ;)

If you take away the run at the beginning, we still had 4.6 ypc. There were some other substantial runs, but they didn't skew the total nearly as much as Allen's run.

Well frack, then we're right on our 100-yards-improvement track.

The fact of the matter, guys, is that we're a pretty dang good football team. We're putting up the numbers, but we got to play with level heads and mental toughness. I think everyone agrees that two years ago, we probably lose this game. Winning close ones is traditionally a sign of good coaching. Josh had a bad night through the air, but I watched him literally "will" a victory on those last two series. So before we go throwing our QB and HC under the bus, let's remember that it's still early in both their tenures, and it's still early in the season.

Let's give Clemson some credit too. They hung in the game and didn't give up. But let's wait till we actually lose one before we start screaming about the sky falling.

Sorry for the pseudo-rant. Thanks to everyone who came out in white. I thought the place looked ten times better this time around.
 
I said this in another thread, and I'll say it here: the yards we put up are pretty irrelevant, when we can only muster ONE offensive touchdown, which came on one big play. That will not cut it if we want to reach our goals this year of a win over georgia, and an ACC championship. It just won't. We need for all those yards we rack up to actually turn into TDs, simple as that. Hell, we only had three field goals too, so for all those yards, the offense only put up 16 points. Were it not for big special team plays, we're right back at last year, where we said that it would take more than scoring 17 pts by the offense to win a game. Nothing's changed.
 
The good news in all of this is that all points scored count...and 30 is always greater than 27.

On a side note, just because the Kicker threw a TD doesn't mean it is not an offensive TD.
 
CPJ said after the game that their DE's were the main reason for our lack of production. I tend to agree. Bowers was getting around the chop blocks all night. Hopefully we won't have that type of mismatch all year. I don't think we will have that problem against UM. I am worried about our pass rush when Morgan is doubled up on.

+1. Or if he is injured. He was slightly tweaked on the play prior to Parker to Ford touchdown and was not in on that play. So we rushed 3, and Parker found Ford for the TD -- Morgan in on that play, and we might be a little happier today.
 
I think the offense will show consistent week to week improvement much like they did last year. But I'd like to see the defense imrpove much faster.

Yardage produced is a much better indicator of future performance than points scored. Certainly the object is to score as many points as possible, that's what goes on the scoreboard, i'm just trying to look at leading indicators. I'm not trying to make the claim that we were great on offense, but it's funny how the only thing people remember are the 70 yard plays.
