Classic response from CPJ at Monday's press conference:

Question: "Any chance we will see Nesbitt in the shotgun some?"

CPJ: " Not unless he is punting."

Don't you love his candor and sense of humor? He is one bright coaching mind. Glad he is our coach. Can you think of one coach you would even consider trading him for?........I can't!

DG :laugher:

Hey, we just had Blair throw a touchdown pass from the shotgun last week. No wonder the press wants us to line up that way more often. ;)

the Scott Blair TD pass / winning field goal got ESPN's "Balla" award haha... they usually vote on it but one of the guys was like "no... hands down, there is no competition. Scott Blair of Georgia Tech is The Balla"

then they went on to say how Miami was hungry for revenge and would dominate GT...

Which idiot asked this question? Paul Johnson has repeatedly said why he runs his offense from under center. Does anyone ever remember us running from a shotgun in the last 14 months? Dumbass reporter.

Great answer though. The one Thursday night for Erin Andrews was classic too.

The only time I could see CPJ utilize the shotgun is on a last second gasp (i.e. Hail Mary).

Folks might have a better chance of badgering CPJ into starring in porn flick than running his offense out of the shotgun.

I'm interested to see what surprises, if any, GT will have for Miami.

I think screens if we actually need it. I know from practice that we've learned to do a few and I don't think we did one against Clemson.

We tried one to JD, but Nesbitt threw it in the dirt, IIRC.

Nesbitt doesn't put enough "touch" on his passes. He throws lasers all over the field. And when he does put "touch" on his passes, he floats the ball too much.

I think he was just having a bad night. Hopefully he is on target in the Miami game.

Isn't the long toss sweep play like a screen anyway?

Not quite. The long toss sweep isn't as deceptive as a screen pass. The back usually goes into motion which draws attention, and then the ball goes to him immediately. Whereas with a screen pass, the DLinemen are usually allowed to advance in towards the QB and then the OLinemen are left to block for the back catching the screen pass in the next level.

Don't get me wrong, I love the sweep toss as a good way to stretch the defenses, but it is not the same as a screen. I don't see us doing a lot of screen stuff, but that's just my opinion, and I've been known to be wrong before.
