Excuse me as I paraphrase this somewhat:

"Honestly, there are some people who don't know how to hire a head coach. They would rather win the press conference than win the game."

This guy is the best!! He is so refreshing. :D

First post. Welcome aboard AlabamaBuzz.

What was the context?

Basically, they were asking him why more guys don't run his offense, and did he think more coaches would run it in the future? He was basically saying that he has been doing it since 1985, and he doesn't change what wins games to help him get a job, or at least that is how I take it. He said that many of the younger coaches have either not had any experience with the offense, or they figure it will hurt their ability to find a Division 1 job.

i woke up to an interview with him on the giant show on 96 rock one morning.

he was great. one guy made a comment that seemed like the guy knew a little too much about cpj (maybe about his attire...) so coach called him out on it and said "so and so needs to get a girlfriend"

so at the end of the interview they said coach you're 1 and 0 against richt on the field and with us since he hasn't appeared on our show, we'd love to have you back and cpj said "i'd love to come back but make sure so and so has a girlfriend by then!" took another shot going out the door.:laugher:

he's just soooooo good with the media. he talks about the other guys trying to win the press conference and he most definitely will.

didn't he also say something to the effect that the other coaches wouldn't want to coach it b/c they would get sick of all the questions regarding to why it may not work?

I think you misquoted him, I heard him say something along these lines:

"People shut us down for a couple of series, and I hear coaches say that they've figured it out. They figured out the key how to stop us. I've been running this offense since 1986, I've heard that all along. I think some people would rather win the press conference than win the game."

You are probably right, but he was answering a question about why more coaches don't run this offense. Right before he said the last line of your post, he did say that he thought some people didn't know how to hire head coaches. He got a good laugh from those there when he said that.

He just combined two different quotes is all. CPJ said both of those things at one point.

In that same portion of the show:

"Maybe they don't run this offense because they don't want to answer the same damn questions every interview."
