Is tonight's game a must win for us? For Miami?

I personally think that Miami needs to win tonight. If they drop five in a row, Shannon is probably done, and the slide back into national irrelevance continues. I think if you were to make an argument about which teams stands more to gain in a win and which team stands more to lose in a loss, Miami is the answer to both, especially given the hype that ESPN is heaping on them and this game.

For what it's worth, that's a good thing to me, because every team that has faced must-win games this season has choked it up. Ohio State is a certifiable also-ran after losing again, and Notre Dame is done.

Does anyone else look at tonight's game like this?

Yes. Must win for them. But it is still important for both squads.

It's definitely a more crucial game for them though. Because if they lose, it will be tough having to face VT at VT and OU after that.

If we lose, I can almost guarantee a win against UNC because of revenge for last year and not winning two games in a row under CPJ.

I think that on the strength of the FSU win, as long as Shannon doesn't get blown off the field in the games he loses, with this schedule he'll be retained and maybe even praised if he makes it to a bowl game. Not sure I would say it's a must win for us, although it's certainly possible that the Tech-Miami tiebreaker could decide who goes to the ACCCG.

Not a must-win for either. Don't overestimate our importance, there's no way Shannon gets fired as a result of this game. I don't think either team stands to lose very much by losing the game, but both have A TON to gain by winning it.

I'm not over-inflating our value. I'm watching the ESPN media machine get going and put on a full court press. This may not have been a must win for Miami last week, but with the hype that ESPN has put on this game, I think it is now. Have you seen the commercials for the game? It actually says "return to glory" while showing Miami. I think ESPN has single-handedly put Miami behind the 8-ball on this one.

It's possible, I just think it's way too early in the season. There's plenty of time for Shannon to redeem himself if he loses this game...no one will be talking about it at the end of the season unless they have a great year and it's a "what if we had beat GT?" sort of deal, which obviously wouldn't get him fired.

must-win game for coastal title, same goes for VT game and maybe unc game.

I am too biased, I think that every game is a must win, and anything less is a failure. Who cares if we are unranked going against the #1 team in the country? We should still beat them by 4 scores.
