PJ postgame comments

They played a good game and we didn't. Wasn't sure which how much of it was them playing good or us sucking, will have to look at film. Got to get better in every aspect. Dwyer, had a problem with his shoulder and didn't think it was serious. Cooper Taylor had heart palpitations so they held him out for the rest of the game. Said we didn't have the ball very much, I think 4 times in the first half and not many more than that in the 2nd. I know I'm missing a bunch of stuff, but he wasn't happy

Did he seem more down than any other loss? Did he seem like he was staring Armageddon in the face? Were you happy about what he said? Thanks for the info.
 
Pissed is probably an understatement. I'm sure everyone heard CPJ's justified comment to the 4th and inches false start. The kid is a Tech student so Simple question really.

No offense dude, but I don't think that lost us the game.
 
yea no sh"". That was on the 2pt conv attempt. But there was plenty of stupid plays, call, coverages, tackles ..on.on.on
 
I don't mean this rhetorically or smartassedly, but should I believe that better decisionmaking by our players would've won the game?
 
There's no way to know for sure it didn't lose us the game. We would have gotten the conversion and maye have went down for a touchdown and started to make a game of it.

Not that I'm saying that WOULD have happened, just that it could. That's why you simply cannot make dumb penalties like that, period. Even in games like this, football is a game of inches where a something like a false start might have turned the game around.

We did make a lot of dumb plays. Numerous times DBs/LBs came up on running plays, lost leverage on the runner and let the guy get outside. False starts, dumb holding calls (justified). You can't add mental errors on top of the physical disadvantages we faced on the lines and expect to win games.
 
That was the worst execution i've seen from GT since 51-7. If Miami had needed to score 51 they could have. Don't pretend that the game was as close as 16 points.

Our LB's and DB's were over-running plays and in the wrong place constantly. Even our A-A DB was doing this. We had CB's leaving open WR's to chase the QB. We had open gaps all night long. We had WR's splitting the deep zone with no coverage. On and on.

That was as bad a defensive effort as I've seen in a long, long time.

Geori, they scored 33, but left 3 TD's on the field. That's 54 right there. It could have been worse than that.

Very true. Randy Shannon took it easy on us. He called off the dogs at the end. Classy, classy guy. Especially after what we did to them last year.

Miami could have scored more, but they didn't. That was a tail whooping for sure, but nothing like 51-7 where our team quit. We didn't quite last night, we just got our ass kicked.

What needs to happen now is for CPJ to look and see who is playing soft and sit them down. I think Howard and Allen should probably watch the first few series of the UNC game from the sideline. We also need to find a reciever other than Thomas. He can't be expected to beat double coverage every time we're 3 and long.

I also think the play calling needs to change. I don't know how, but CPJ needs to adjust for our interior OL getting beat every down.

And in all fairness, the team looked like they need the extra two games rest.
 
We called off the dogs even on D. We just scored more early when the game could've still turned. What goes around comes around and Miami classily returned the favor.

Well, we called off the dogs last year as well . . .

Shannon was a good d-coordinator. Now that he has good coordinators, he may turn out to be a good head coach. And Miami off-field behavior has, quite frankly, improved dramatically.
 
Bumping this up cause I really want to hear (or read) what CPJ said after the game.

Which 51-7? There were 2 in the Gailey regime. 2002 Athens and 2005 Blacksburg.

CPJ shouldn't have been going for two right there anyway. By making the one XP we were still within 2 scores of forcing OT. If he goes for two right there and misses we are down 17 or 3 scores. He should have thanked the kid for keeping our miniscule hopes alive. Down 16 we still had a chance (albeit not much) since we were within two scores.
