Clemson 2006.

I read a post about it earlier, and I remember the game quite vividly.

We were blown out by a team that was indescribably ready for the game. Miami had their revenge.

My friend, a UGA fan, said to me last night "dude don't worry about it.. did you think GT was going to go undefeated? Or that Miami was a s***ty team?"

Come to think of it, no. I didn't. I knew that @Miami and @FSU were our toughest games, and what do you know, we lost one of em. He was right, I was too caught up in it.

Yes, our offense SUCKED at blocking and execution. Yes, our defense SUCKED at coverage and pressure.

You better believe that CPJ chewed these guys out. He sees that there was no heart in this team. I have full faith that come next Saturday, we'll be seeing the team we saw last year. It takes an experience like this to put things in check. Maybe VT isn't the best. Maybe Miami actually IS the best team in the ACC? It was an early loss, and we have 9 more games.

UNC will be our "measuring stick" to see if we can execute well and put up points against a team like we used to. Don't get me wrong, UNC is a great program. If they beat ECU, they'll keep their ranking and come to BDS, but quite frankly we've got more to lose than them. If we come out strong, then it's back to a teens-ranking for GT.

We have to win by a big margin. Our guys are under-confident, I can feel it. I felt it against Clemson, I saw it against Miami. But don't be too quick to pull out the "we suck this year" or "CPJ may not be the guy" cards, then say we're amazing after an 11-1 season. For all we know, it may be 11-1! W's are W's, L's are L's, no matter how they're won or lost.

This was a big game, but it still goes down as a conference loss. Just one.

Here's to kicking some Tarheel ass on Saturday...

No one in their right mind really thought we would be undefeated, but they didn't plan on our first loss coming in this fashion. If the offense was firing on all cylinders last night, and we still lost, it might have been easier to take.

If we lose to UNC, people really have to start questioning the coaching. We have returned 9 starters on offense. Teams would kill to be able to return that many players on one side of the ball. CPJ better get his mind right and run this team like a head coach who went 9-3 last year and was able to return 9 out of 11 starters on offense.

If we win, I will give us some credit, but not much. We have to win impressively to give optimism back to this program.

It's not bad coaching if guys are there to make blocks and don't

The only reason I'm singling out this game is because there are no excuses. There is no bullcrap "3 games in 13 days", we don't have a streak against UNC, we don't have to travel to UNC after we embarrassed them last year.

This is a no excuses, everyone get your act together (that means fans, coaches, and players) and play some football.

Yes it is. The coach is supposed to make sure that the players know what to do. Having played for bad and good coaches, I disagree with your opinion.

Nobody can solely shoulder the blame. The coach(es) aren't driving this stuff into the players heads, and the players give up or don't give 100% when playing.

its a losing strategy that's gotta change. they have to stop being scared of teams preparing to stop them and just frickin run the offense the way we did last year... Roddy on the toss sweep with great blocking, Thomas (who seems to be the new star player now) making immaculate receptions despite Nesbitt's oft-poor throwing (sound familiar?) and Dwyer up the middle with GREAT BLOCKING...

Knowing who and how to block and being talented enuf to do so are two different things.
Read Dwyer's quote again about how much more they know now vs last year (good coaching). Now look at films of CU & UM games (lack of ability).

My take on coaching issues is primarily one of stubbornness. No safety or corner blitzes after watching Harris stand back there and text his mama before passing? No intermediate passes to A-backs or receivers without a no. 8 jersey? Puzzling.

UNC will bring a very good D-line to the house next week, so just more of same clearly won't work on O. As for D, I so hope we take Tarrant's fluffy cushion from him and put in a few blitz packages.

I really thought we might go undefeated. I knew it was a long shot as it is for any team, but I thought we were better than every team on our schedule. This was based on the fact that every time I read the newspaper or the statements from the athletic department, I read, "GT is better than last year."

I feel like I've been lied to. GT is not better than last year.

But I do agree - the UNC game is the game to put up or shut up.

If they are in the right position on the play but don't execute that's on both the player and the coach in my opinion. They need to get some fire in them.

+1
Dude, we are totally on the same page today.

"Light-years ahead" CPJ said...

True. But no blame was being placed on the offensive coaching. That was my problem. I may have gone a bit extreme.

In the end, after seeing coaches turn around programs much more often than players, I think that more of the blame should always be put on the coaches in college.

Now, at the pro level, I think it is more 50/50. Or moreso on the player.
