I support out coaches BUT

It seems on these boards that people keep giving CPJ a "free pass" and are blaming Wommack (someone CPJ chose), the players, and other assistant coaches.

I am reserving my judgement until after the UNC game. I am sticking by our players and our coaches. BUT

I don't understand why people are so quick to throw our players under the bus and continue to praise CPJ like he is a god. Why give CPJ the free pass and not our players?

The head coach's duty is to put out players in the best situation to win the game. Yes, our personnel can improve on D and O line. But we have to work with what we have.

This UNC game is when our head coach has to step up and put our players in a better position to win. I refuse to think that our team with all the talent we have (Dwyer, Nesbitt, Burnett, Morgan, Tarrant, Wright, Jones, etc.) will go 7-5 or worse.

I believe we will win at UNC. The only thing, in my eyes, that would stop us from that would be bad coaching, not players.

The only positive I see is that UNC's offensive line lacks depth.

It's been three games in already but our offense still hasn't clicked yet. Hell, it hasn't clicked since last year at Athens. I have a hard time believing that our offense will click against what is supposed to be the most experienced front seven in the ACC.

JSU TD run first play, pretty much quit trying after that.
CU 24-0, pretty much quit after that.
Miami, march down the field (with apparent EASE), settle for a field goal, and then never see it again with that kind of ease.

It's like they prove they can do it early, and then say yea we can do it, no need to keep proving it.

UNC did not look good last weekend at all. In fact, they looked worse then we did during the last six quarters. We've been exploited by talented receivers. UNC doesn't have any of those.

We haven't been exploited by talented receivers, we've been dominated at the line of scrimmage. You could put Reggie ball in with that kind of protection and time and he'd make our D look bad.

Same offensive production pretty much the rest of the game. I don't think they've "stopped trying" in three straight games. That might've made sense to say about JSU, but not Clemson, and DEFINITELY not a third time in a row in Miami.

Yes, but I don't want him in the dog house either. The UNC game will determine my view of our coach and team (I feel like I have said this after the JSU game and after the Clemson game ... 3rd time's the charm ).

I agree with him 100% and for every post that says PJ should look in the mirror, there's 5 others talking about the players. The bottom line is everybody lost the game, and the blame starts with the head man in charge.

If his players aren't executing, don't have intensity, etc., then its his fault. When we've got almost our entire offense back from last year, there is NO excuse for us to play as bad as we've played the first three games.

Also possible. I just don't buy the "taking the foot off the gas" theory. I think that tends to be an excuse people use when they want to believe their team is better than it really is, and they'll just wake up and start trying and all will be good.

I love the guy. Love CPJ. But I am not going to let it affect my judgement. When I see ill-prepared players, I will call him out. I hate seeing so many people giving CPJ free passes and talking about his glory days at GSU and Navy. I will believe it when I see it this season. So far I haven't.

Again, I won't pass complete judgement until the UNC game is complete.

I don't think I ever really was "drinking the kool-aid" as you say. I think PJ is one of the better-to-best coaches in the country, personally. That doesn't mean he's going to automatically win 10-11 games per year off the bat. Our football program has been mired in mediocrity so long that we've yet to develop a winner's mentality. That's tough to instill, and it's going to take some time. All of these things are going to take some time. We're not dealing with top 5 recruiting classes here, so it's going to take a while to get where we need to be.

I'm not saying you don't have a right to hold our coach accountable. Heck, we pay for tickets. I put my heart and soul into this team. I'm just saying that this loss hasn't affected my view of Paul Johnson, mainly because I thought we were lucky as hell to be winning this many games in the first place. Often behind "lucky" you see a good coach. Again, it's too early to tell.

This team still has a chance to do some good things. I think we're definitely at a mental crossroads right now. You tell it from the looks on our faces last night. If we "buy in" mentally, I think we'll take another step forward. In the past, we usually fold after games like this. I guess we can't do anything but wait and see. I know that I'll be there in my new seats next weekend at noon (ugh).

If PJ had gone 3-9 in his first season like the pundits thought he would, everyone would have said give him time to recruit his players for his system. Now because he went 9-3 everyone is expecting bigger and better things and seeming to 'forget' that these aren't the ideal players for PJ's system. (Skill players maybe, OLine no), and I have no idea about if the D players fit Wommack's scheme or not. Not sure he even has a scheme.

I'm willing to suffer through a step back this season without giving him too much grief, but I figure in his third year he should have some of his own recruits and his system in place and that's where the true talent of PJ can be placed into question.

I don't think everything PJ shi*s is gold, but I think that his offense is VASTLY superior to what we had before, and he is doing what he needs to be doing so far. There are things he can fix, but I say give him time.

If Charlie Weis can get 5 years at Notre Dame, Paul Johnson has earned three years of employment. Does that mean a free pass? No. Not sure who is giving him a free pass nowadays (after LSU perhaps but not now). However, as one person said, CPJ can't go out and make tackles, run routes, block rushers or cover receivers. He can only instruct the players on how to do that or, in the case of the defense, tell the person he hired to do it for him to do a better job. The defensive woes lie at Wommack's feet. It's his philosophy and his style. Paul Johnson isn't going to tell him to blitz more just like Wommack won't tell CPJ to make shorter passes.

PJ was up there with me until halftime last week. He's going downhill since.

PJ would be higher with me if he was less arrogant. Alot of the stuff he says is like Charlie Weis. "Decided schematic advantage"... hah! Half the team quit on him last night.

I think he means "calling out" in the sense of raising coaching issues and expecting an explanation, not in the sense of concluding that the coaches suck. I have thought about it and I think he has a point about a general (not universal) reluctance to consider whether PJ's coaching is spot on. It has given me some peace to consider that PJ is going to--and is entitled to-- have a bad day or week like everyone else. All of the greats in sports have a slump or a bump in the road. And I am betting that PJ calls out himself, in addition to the team and staff, on the call-in show this week.
