Line-up Changes for UNC

I appreciate the head coach and defensive coordinator owning up to their part in a bad performance. I hate when coaches throw their players under the bus. Johnson and Wommack are stepping up to take the blame. I like that.
 
Cox needs to play for AA for sure, and the OLine needs some new blood.
 
I don't like the fact that we're sticking to the 4-2-5. We had absolutely no pressure on the QB. I'd much rather see us bring up a third LB. Maybe with 3 LB's we might see some more blitzing.
 
I like that the offense was back to basics today. My confidence in Wommack has risen a little. I like that he said that was the worst defense he has ever seen.

Guys, I think our coaches are learning a little bit too. Give them time. I think PJ will set this ship straight.

I really, really like that we are going back to basics because I think that's what we need. It worked for us last year and it will probably work this year. Further, I like that we are making roster changes. That needed to happen. Let's hope we get some of that competition at center to step up and light a fire under their asses.

UNC line is awful and we could get to Yates easy... BUT what they did this weekend vs. ECU was throw quick 1 step drop passes to TE for short gains and screens
 
Hopefully our LB's are good enough to at least stop a dink and dunk passing game. Morgan should at least stop the TE on his side of the field.
 
Quarterback Josh Nesbitt’s critique of the offense was as doleful as Wommack’s for the defense. There were no positives, he said.
“The eye in the sky don’t lie,” said Nesbitt, who said the team took the offense back to the basics in Sunday’s practice.


Well if the 'basics' translate to blocking and runs similar to last year I'll be happy with that.

I'm not a big fan of the 4-2-5 either. But that's just it, I'm a fan --I trust what the coaching staff wants to do.
 
Between the offense and the defense versus UNC, I'm expecting the biggest difference to be in the offensive performance. Hoping to see some vicious blocking thrown to jump start our running game. Our defense just seems too up in the air to make a drastic change so quickly...

That statement is really telling, and is something that makes me feel much better. In the past, there had been questions about Paul Johnson's taking responsibility for a loss. I see that he's every bit the coach I thought him to be.

I think we will show up much better against UNC. I didn't see the game this weekend, but last weekend, they looked horrible against UConn. We're rested, which is something we weren't against Miami. We shouldn't have any more lapses in focus and intensity, now that we're back to Earth. And so far, it seems achilles heel is a big-play wideout, which UNC lost in the draft. If our team struggles against the Heels, then we're in worse shape than we thought. This is a game we should win.
 
I'll be disappointed if we don't see some new blood on the offensive line.
 
If it's just minor problems, then they should easily be solved this week playing UNC. I expect a win this Saturday.
 
UNC has found their big play wideout. They completed a near perfect 50+ yd TD pass in the ECU game that would have been impossible for us to stop, basically.

They're still a defensive football team, though. The ECU score did not accurately represent how dominant their defense was. They got numerous attempts to move the ball from ECU's inability to maintain possession, and that eventually led to points.

We can beat UNC, but they're better than they looked vs UConn.


I'm fine with a 4-2-5. It's what we've been practicing, so I'd rather not change it now. Wommack said the problem was players lining up wrong and taking the wrong assignments, not lining up right and getting beaten because of the scheme.

I guess in the coaches' mind the wolf position is a third LB who they could blitz.

You definitely didn't watch their game this weekend. Their wideouts are capable of the big play, thanks in no small part to their offensive line manhandling ECU. I'm not worried about our team's motivation after snapping defeat from the jaws of victory against UNC last year, but there's only so much a week of coaching can accomplish when you have a D-Line that's proven nothing through three games.

That said, I really do think we win, but this one will have me nervous until the last whistle.
