Salvaging the season

7 or 8 wins with a loss to ugag will be a step back considering second year with staff and large no. of returning players, including FOUR future likely first round picks.

Since Josh is a Jr., it looks like our break-out year will be the second year of who ever replaces him. By then, ALL the cards will be on the table. New QB with some experience, new OL, new DL, mostly new LBs, and a coaching staff in it's 5th year with the probability of a new DC. If we can't pass for a buck fifty or so and keep people from scoring more than a TD per Qtr. by then, well, time to rethink.

If this schedule is to be 1 or 2 years sooner, it will be apparent Saturday.

Our inability to complete more passes is completely inexcusable. D not so much a step back since we lost so much talent.

Seven wins would leave a sour taste.

Eight wins would leave me content.

Nine wins would leave me feeling like GT didn't let down.
This.

But this was surprisingly close to where I was at the beginning of the season.

Get off the ledge. 4 first round picks? Maybe 2. Not to say all 4 aren't very good players, but expecting all to go in the first round is ridiculous.

Whatever gets you to stop posting Yukon, since you're never around when we're winning.

I am scared to death of UGA right now. They put up 52 points throwing the ball and our defense has big enough holes for cruise ships to go through.

Why the hell would you be scared of team don't play for months?

For me salvaging the season has a different meaning than just wins and losses. What I would like to see is the offense finally gelling and putting loads of points on the scoreboard. Sure, I would like to win enough games to get a decent bowl game; but more importantly I want '3-O' to stand for 'Triple Option' and not 'Three and Out'. This team is supposed to be defined by Paul Johnson's unique offense, right now it is just a bunch of missed potential and the nay sayers are looking pretty smart. If we win 7 games because the defense bucks up and puts the Opossum stomp on some lesser teams, I will not be as excited for next year as I will be if the offense starts hanging 45 points on good defenses.

I think this is a good point.

ok nc, "possible" instead of likely and no it's not ridiculous that 1, 8, 21, & 91 go when their time comes in the first two rounds. My point remains the same.

The performance of the team and the prospects of those individuals are directly related. All four will not go in the first two rounds if GT has a dissappointing season.

And who determines what a disappointing season is? If it was up to the fans Bradford wouldn't leave until he has an undefeated season. Anything else is probably a disappointment to them.

As for NFL draft status, you can't place an opinion of a player from a draft perspective entirely on statistics from the season and the teams success. Derrick Morgan for example might get shut down, but its not from like of effort, skill or ability. Most likely its from most of the offensive line blocking him cause the other three guys could be handled by a tackle and a tight end.

At their positions a NFL scout could care less what the team does.

I think you mean "could not" care less and I agree no one will look at what the team does directly.

My point is that if we continue to see more of the same from some of those you listed then they will NOT go in the first two rounds. And whether they improve is directly correlated to whether the team improves.

Dwyer's draft status dramatically improved because of his stats last year. If those stats suffer then so will his status. Yes, they take into account physical potential, but the draft is filled with players across the nation with "potential".

If you have potential and perform exceptionally on the field as well then you are less of a risk. If you merely have potential then you fall to status of "project" and they are less likely to waste a top pick.

Those players were projected highly for the same reasons the team as a whole had high expectations.

It is possible but unlikely that ALL those individuals will maintain first or second round status AND that GT will have a disappointing season. (defined in my case as anything worse than last year)

We're already salvaging the season? We're you expecting to go undefeated this year?

Christ Yukon, take a break from posting. You're seriously embaressing yourself and whatever credibility you have left around here is dying.
.

What makes you think I give a hoot about credibility? I haven't stated anything that needs be "believed" by anybody. I am merely axing: if you are disappointed in your original expectations for this team, as I am, what would salvage things for you? Since it is mathematically possible to still be 11-1 is that what it takes? Some people believe that. I don't. And despite statements to the contrary, I don't believe most of us would take 5-7 and be happy if one of those 5 was against Georgia. I know I'd like the win, but would be overall concerned if we found a way to lose six more games.
Hope things go well on the really important stuff this weekend.
