Last year, we had a ton of injuries at LB. IIRC, this caused us to change personnel quite a bit...remember Tony Clark playing a hybrid LB/Safety???

That is when the whole "WOLF" thing started, am I right?

Now we have depth...much moreso than mid-season last year.

My question is: when did this WOLF bs start? I think it started during or around the Miami game of last year or before and it sucks. It always has sucked and I hated it.

Sure, it may best Ted Roof's most average defensive schmemes but dammit...it wasn't working. But that's okay, I'm pretty sure it started out of necessity.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

A bunch of guys on the Hive thought it was cool to name this position "The Wolf" and they told the coaches that they could advertise their standard 4-3-4 defense, with their undersized outside lb, that was really a safety out of position and make it sound like it was the cool thing to do. So instead of just running a weak ass 4-3 defense, they called it "The Wolf" and said it was a 4-2-5 because calling the 4-2-5 the "nickel package" or calling the standard 4-3 (which looked retarded with our personnel) had lost its luster and the Hivers want to be cutting edge.

The coaches thought it was great that they could get a bunch of tools to slobber overthemselves and partake in circle jerks about this newly created "Wolf" position so they let them post top secret Insiders posts refering to the standard nickel package as a 4-2 with "The Wolf" so they can think they are cool.

That's when it started.

So can we blame the Hive for our weak defense for all these games?

I wish I had never read that.:mad::puke:

Defense, and I don't really understand it past the 9 year old division, is more based on the athletes than the play calling, typically. the studs on our defense know what to do, given the opportunity, just give them the chance! simply play calling let our studs know what to do and do it.

The idea of the alignment started because our LBs played so poorly last year and didn't look much more stout going into this season. Remember the part about the coaches saying they wanted the best 11 on the field? A combination of injuries, lack of push from our DL and, I think, a couple of the younger guys showing they are ready to play, allows us to get some bigger bodies on the field now (LB instead of DB). Worked well yesterday, but we still ran the 4-2-5 in passing downs.

Wolf was definitely not created by the hive. We had a wolf on a few of the defenses I played on in high school and earlier. Some call it wolf, some call it a Rover. It all depends on who's coaching. It's a fairly common term. Regardless, a 4-3 seems to work much better with our personnel.

Hook line and sinker....
