I was watching the Redskins/Lions game last night... I'm not a big fan of the NFL. There's just no passion, but I like to watch former Jackets...

Stafford/Johnson was something that I wanted to see, so I tuned in. There was one pass (I found the highlight video below) where Stafford throws to Calvin and he makes one of those catches that he's known for: a complete momentum-conflicting sideways dive to grab the ball, to which the announcer says "Calvin, you're sick!"

I am a big NFL fan. If you think the NFL is lacking passion, you must not be watching the same games I am.

eh, I mean there is passion, its just that with college football you aren't paid, the fans are young and loud, and theres more on the line with each team.

maybe it isn't that the NFL has no passion, just that college football has more IMO.

Plus they never seem to care if they lose, it's just ho-hum next week.

The only games with a lot of passion in the NFL are the big rivalries. The Falcons/Carolina game and Falcons/Eagles games are the only games where I think our team has a lot of passion.

College football has more passion because they are kids on the field and kids in the stands rooting for their own school. NFL players are not kids, they are adults. [yet some act like kids off the field] They aren't working to "get into the NFL." They aren't fighting for their school. It's not the same pride that you get playing for your school.

The fans at NFL games aren't as rowdy because a large amount of them are corporate tickets, many are there to just booze, and only a few are die hard fans. For college football, there are alumni and young kids in the stands without mommy and daddy there by their sides, so they can just let loose (and sneak in the whiskey).

Regardless. I think that NFL is still interesting. I don't think a loss in the NFL is "ho hum" as someone else has said. The competition is just as fierce, but you don't realize it as much because it is so fast and much more streamlined. Not to mention, these guys aren't experiencing it all for their very first time. They are mostly veterans.

Weren't we talking about all the teams that GT was the demise of? Miami, Clemson, Notre Dame, Auburn, and a couple of others...

I think we forgot NC State. They were undefeated until this game! Here's to ruining another team's glory on October 17th! :drinking:

by the way, listen to the fight song at the end of that clip lol... thats the fastest I've ever heard it!
 
The NFL players are just as passionate as college players. If you get out on an NFL field and you're not going 100% all the time, you're going to get yourself seriously injured. Just watch an NFL game and look at the speed and intensity of the hits...it's just unbelievable.

What is different is the fans and the gameday atmosphere. College beats pros hands down there, for all the reasons cajunjacket mentioned.
 
It's also much more special to be a part of a fanbase that's relatively similar to yourself. That comes more with college football and the alumni base. College football is a greater personal experience.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with cheering for a school even though you didn't go there. But it's nice to know that a lot of the other fans of your team most likely share the same background with you in that you all spent time at the same school for 4 or 5 years.

Yep. You're not just cheering for a football team, you're cheering for an institution that you also go out and represent every day, not to mention one you were actively a part of for four of your most formative years. To me that is a big deal.

I never doubted their speed or intensity. But at the end of the day they are working hard because it's their job.

They are not working hard because they know this year's team might be their last chance at a NC. They are not working hard because they know that one lost game is the difference between a great season and an ok season.

In the NFL players lose a game at the beginning of the year and it's, "Well they played great, and we made some mistakes, we'll get em next time." College, players lose a game and apologize to the fans because they know that was their shot to have a great year and now it's blown.

Do you seriously think the Falcons players got as upset at their loss as the GT players did after losing that way to Miami? Do you think Mike Smith is as upset at a loss as a College Coach trying to win a NC?

I gotta put up with the sorry Redskins. I heard at least one of them mention that they work hard and get paid. It was as if losing doesn't bother them as much as long as their doing their individual part so the check keeps getting deposited...

Nah, sorry. NFL isn't even close to college in passion. :laugher:

Yes. I do. Maybe not at that individual loss, because thankfully the NFL has playoffs, but in general I think they care just as much. Most players do not grow up dreaming of winning a national title, they grow up dreaming of winning the Super Bowl, and they know that even though you have a whole career to win it, that's not really that long. Just ask Dan Marino.

You're right that the college players know they blow their chances at a national title with just one loss and NFL players don't, but that's not passion. That's a stupid system. NFL players are the same people who played in college...just because they are getting paid now doesn't mean they're not passionate about it. You don't grow up eating, living, and breathing football and then all of a sudden stop loving the game just because you get a paycheck for it. Tashard is still running just as hard and as passionately as he did for us.

Obviously there are individual exceptions and there ARE people who just don't care or are just cashing a paycheck, but you'll find those same types of people in college not working hard in practice, missing team meetings, etc.
