CPJ Radio Show

Anyone who listened to this willing to post a summary?

I listened to it last night. Most memorable part to me was CPJ talking about how Bill Belichick used to come by the Naval Academy and spend hours in the film room. CPJ said something like Bill was trying to see if there is any part of it that he can use but also joked that Bill was in there trying to figure out how to stop it.

Some guy called in and said that there was a shot of CPJ giving a play to one of the players and he was able to read his lips. He said "right over green" (forget exact phrase) and asked if CPJ would consider using one of those laminated sheets other coaches use for calling plays to hide his mouth even if he doesn't need it for play calling. CPJ said that was only the formation but he'll try to be more careful next time.

Anyone who listened to this willing to post a summary?

The talking points I can recall:

1. We had a great week of practice. We looked really sharp this week.

2. The players have now caught up with all of their classes so they aren't pulling all nighters any more.

3. No one was injured in the UNC game, in fact, players are healing and coming back into the lineup (Jaybo, etc.).

4. He has a quote I posted about yesterday that showed he has a chip on his shoulder of the popular sentiment of SEC dominance. He said something to the effect of ,"we aren't supposed to be able to play with the SEC." This is not a direct quote, just a similar quote.

5. He said that it's going to to be a wild one in Starksville. The crowd got a rise out this one and (4) above.

6. Fun fact: Bill Belichek would sit in on film sessions to see CPJ's option offense in action because he was fascinated by it. The AJC should have done an article on this, because it seems like a pretty interesting story ... but, then again, we are talking about the AJC here.

7. He talked about the Wildcat being implemented in the NFL and how it is really successful so far because you have to account for the QB in that set.

8. He alluded again to how we had two really tough schedule this year and last year. He made a joke about how the ACC must have something against GT or him personally.

9. He said that our game against UNC wasn't much different than the game against Miami. The only difference was we made a few more blocks and didn't allow UNC to control the game like Miami did.

10. Someone asked when we are going to run the option as fast as Navy. He said that if we were playing against the same opponents as Navy, we would probably look faster.

That's about all I can remember...

I just got a general vibe of confidence. It seemed like he really wanted to prove something this Saturday. There was a positive feeling about the entire show that wasn't only attributed to the UNC win. Maybe we are really starting to hit full stride in practice. After listening to the show, I gained a TON of confidence about this weekend's game. Can anyone else who listened to this attest to this?

thanks this was helpful.

2. The players have now caught up with all of their classes so they aren't pulling all nighters any more.

Honestly I think this is what screwed us over with the 3 games in 12 days thing more than being tired between Clemson and Miami. We did have the usual 6 days in between but they players couldn't get the usual rest they would get in 6 days time. Playing full on catch-up with classes at this school can be a draining experience.

Yep. It's draining enough as a normal student. Just think how they also have to be studying another football team, watching film, AND practicing. It's tough to juggle.

I want to mention another thing that CPJ said which I think is VERY VERY positive:

1. He said we are comfortable with a routine now. He went on to say that everyone needs a routine to perform well.
That is HUGE. It's just like with a new job. You have to learn how to operate in the system, on that schedule, get all the beginning paperwork out of the way, etc. Once you are done with that and have settled in after a month or so, you start performing at your peak level. Just like me. Posting on stingtalk at work.

Part of the daily...eh... hourly routine to help keep focus and priorities at the proper level.

One caller also asked when we were going to wear the blue jerseys again, bc we need to wear them more, oh "and we should make 'Georgia Tech' bigger on the front like Oklahoma does with SOONERS."

CPJ... ... ... "I'll take it under advisement."
Wes... ... ... "Well coach we made it into October this year before the first jerseys comment."
CPJ "Yeah, we did good."

It was clear that they both wanted to reach through the phone and strangle the guy.

In regards to the blown call on the rolling clock at the end of the first half...
CPJ "I'm no longer at liberty to discuss that."

So apparently he was 'asked' not to make any more comments about it. Imagine if CPJ did NOT have some restraint in him... :soapbox:

"if CPJ did NOT have some restraint in him... "

he would do this to refs:

I swear that same guy calls in 4-5 times a season and always has a comment to make about the jerseys.

HAHAHAHA...I can't stop watching this

If you liked that, you'll love this:

I heard a guy earlier in the year call in and tell the coach it was "good seeing us back in our TRADITIONAL colors". TRADITIONAL? I guess the Vegas gold we've been wearing less than two decades counts as "traditional" now.

BTW--Coach responded WTTE "I have nothing to do with the uniforms..." :D

This is probably similar to why we looked 10X improved in Summer practice this year vs. last year, and then it ended up being a let down in the first 3 games.
