Why I'm going to stop rooting for the ACC.

This is a bit of a tangent, because I know that my preference for the outcome of a game does nothing to impact the actual score, but this is something that worries me about the way our season is headed.

Right now, the best scenario we can hope for is to win out, and for Miami to lose another ACC game. The best chance of that is Clemson, although they're looking a lot worse than I expected them to look. UNC would be better, but they're awful. Miami can win out easily. This puts us in a tough spot. If this happens, we still need to win out, then force a 3-way tie breaker between us, Miami, and VPI. Once you go through the magic that is the ACC tie-breaking system, you get to the polls and the BCS, and that's where things get really random. If this occurs, we're left to the whims of the voters. This is where I will start rooting against the ACC.

Miami won a close game over an over-rated OU squad Saturday Night. People are saying that this is proof that Miami is a top ten team. I think it proves that OU is not the team that people think they are. Either way, it's a "signature win". I think OU will lose at least two more games. But it doesn't matter. When I look at our schedule, we don't have any other quality teams, other than VPI, but beating them will not propel us past Miami in the polls. I was hoping Miami would win, but now I'm not sure that helped us any. Georgia is a bad team, and as much as I revel in that (it makes me tingle in a special place that is borderline inappropriate), it is not helping us. A victory over a 3 loss UGA team will not be worth much in the final poll. It also makes me think that perhaps I should consider entertaining the notion that I may want UGA to win some games, and this makes me hate myself.

So, the way I see it, we need to win out, we need Miami to start losing games like last season, and we need VPI to win out after losing to us. We also need our opponents to continue to beat teams not named Tech, and that means Vandy needs to pull their heads from their asses and ...I can't do it. I hope UGA loses every other game this season. **** 'em.

All we have to do is wait for Miami to think God has finally come down from On High and delivered their "Magic Swagger Stick" back to them, where all they have to do is put on a U uniform and show up to win. The media will grant them this illusion sooner or later, and when it does, they'll sleepwalk through a game and lose it.

I have decided that there is no point in even thinking about it until after we play FSU and VT. If we do not win both...the point is moot.

Miami will likely be favored the rest of the way with their hardest game at USF which will not help us in all likelihood as outside forces are way down the pecking order in the tie-breaking system. If Ponder had just thrown that darn ball 6 inches higher!!!

Miami schedule:
10/10 Florida A&M
10/17 @ UCF
10/24 Clemson
10/31 @ Wake Forest
11/07 Virginia
11/14 @ North Carolina
11/21 Duke
11/28 @ South Florida

Ya know, I want to pull for the ACC----but gawd how I hate Miami, especially a Miami that is winning. Just hate it.

I never saw any way in which Miami winning would help us. Not even to benefit the ACC reputation, since odds are the better Miami gets the less anyone else is going to care about anyone else in the division..."Who's in the Coastal? Miami and a bunch of other guys."

That's what they'll say even if it's not true.

And now that they've won they'll have the confidence to win more games.

This is why I was hoping Oklahoma would win by a field goal Saturday.

Except the rest of their OOC schedule as well as the remaining teams they play might suck to much to beat a sleepwalking Miami. Remember VPI and their 5 first half turnovers against Duke? And how much did Duke score off of them? 3 points....

I agree that all is moot if we do not win out. However, I say that Miami loses at either Wake or UNC....a la VaTech. Miami is a much different team on the road.

They've got 1.3 losses coming.

I think Miami loses to Clemson and Wake. I think they lose to Clemson because they will have thier heads inflated after their 5-1 start. They will be in full swagger mode by then.

Wake's offense can be tricky, and I could definitely see Miami having some trouble with it.

OU won't lose a regular season game again this season, I'm sorry I just don't see it happening. At the time of the games, OU's opponents were both Top 25, and they lost two games by a combined 2 points. Bob Stoops is a ****head and I can't stand him, but he coaches his teams to their max potential, Miami caught them at an unlucky time.

That said, I have to view UNC as the likely trap game for Miami, moreso than Clemson or any other team.

If we win the rest of our games, we will be in a nice bowl game and will increase our probability of going to the ACC championship. It's that simple. Go Jackets!!

Agreed. If we manage to win out(which I think is less likely than Miami losing another game), it will be such a good season and we'll go to such a good bowl that it won't be devastating to not play in the ACC:CG, so I'm not killing myself worrying about it like last year.

I will guarantee that if it comes down to bcs rankings, miami and vt will both be ahead of us. We are hardly getting mentioned on espn and have had no highlights the last two weeks. The only highlights I saw this week were on ESPNU and it was the MSU kick return for a TD and Tarrant's fumble return for a td.

With the numerous spectacular plays our offense makes, I don't understand why we aren't getting more highlights on college football final. Bebe or JN should've gotten a helmet sticker too.

I could care less about the bozos on ESPN, but I realize that a lot of folks listen to them and rank teams according to espn exposure.

If GT, VT, and MIA all win out there is no way we are the top team in the BCS. Assuming whichever team goes to the ACCCG wins it, I think there is a decent chance the ACC would get two teams in the BCS. We'd probably end up in the Peach Bowl again. I wouldn't be too upset about that.

If GT, VT, and MIA all win out

If we win out, VT doesn't win out, and ends the season at two losses to our one. We would be the better at-large candidate than them.

I think Miami will be ahead of us, but if VPI is ahead of us, it will cause a stir because this whole situation is predicated upon us beating them. There's no conceivable way that a two-loss VPI is ranked ahead of a one-loss Tech.

As for OU not losing another game, you think they're going to beat Texas? Texas will jump all over them, because Mack Brown knows that his team got the short-end of the stick last season, and he's going to wax OU to prove a point. On top of that, I think OU will lose another conference game. They're offensive line isn't good enough and Bradford won't be 100%. I don't see OU being that good of a team, certainly not a BCS team.

If we win out, VT doesn't win out, and ends the season at two losses to our one. We would be the better at-large candidate than them.

I meant end 7-1 in ACC play. I hadn't considered the Bama loss though, would that factor into the tiebreakers outside of BCS standing?

There is about a 0.000025% chance we end up back in the Peach/CFA bowl.
