Funny that people are talking about how effective the option was against MSU. It still didn't look near as effective as the end of last year when we had no passing game to complement.

The good news is I hope we have seen a glimpse of the added dimension we have with a passing game. Nesbitt looked good and exploited to open receivers we have often seen missed in other games.

The reason the coahces called those plays, even when they weren't working earlier, was because they knew they could work and should work. And you can't improve if you just concede the passing game without forcing the defense to stop it.

I will try to drown my worries about our defense with hopes that we can pair an effective passing game with the T.O. running game clicking on all cylinders.

I thought the option looked just as efficient yesterday as it did at the end of last year. The difference was that at the end of last year(Miami and even moreso Georgia), our opponents were playing some pitiful defense and allowing us to bust big runs. That didn't happen last night, but I never felt that MSU was at all stopping our running game.

Well, the big runs were part of the reason it looked so impressive in those games. But last year we were also getting some big yardage on the first option to Dwyer. Now defenses may have seen those films and decided not to let that happen. But then Nesbitt should be reading the defense better and not giving it to Dwyer when the defense has committed two people to stop him.

Maybe the decisions weren't any better last year but defenses were playing it more straight so the dive was open more.

Also, I think the blocking has lots of room for improvement still. It is world's better than against Miami, but last year (at the end) half the plays looked like the Dr. Lou used in the Clemson game. That play was perfect with every defender blocked with precise timing.

What I saw against MSU was more heroics from Nesbitt and Dwyer making some mediocre blocked plays work better than they should. A few plays clicked perfectly though.

Our opponent's D is getting worn out by the end of the game.

But I think more needs to be said about the passing game...11 of 15 for 260 yds is the best by a GT QB I can recall since Godsey (pass % plus yardage).

If you're a DC do you focus on Dwyer or Thomas?
Or Nesbit,,,

MSU had obviously schemed to stop our running game and now finally the pass is a big threat.

Whoa.

For one, I think this is because we have actually not been running the triple option play as many times as we did last year especially in the last two games. Secondly, you are probably remembering the success we had with the dive last year compared to this year where I don't think we've had a big play with the dive yet. I think it's coming soon though cause the new wrinkles our guys showed should help loosen up the middle. :D

Nesbitt did look effective passing the ball, and i was definitely impressed, but D. Thomas definitely inflated his stats with his yards after catch. Quick pass out to Bebe, he stiff arms the puss corner and goes for 8-12 yards, all night long.

Also, Hill looked great. Glad to have a WR threat other than Thomas.

I thought Hill looked good out there as well, and the CSS announcers did say one interesting thing on that note. Thomas and Hill are both big targets and Nesbitt can really use that to his advantage as he did on Saturday.

A point of concern to me is that Nesbitt doesn't throw a very tight deep ball. Thomas had to slow up to the ball on his 65 yard reception because it was underthrown. If Nesbitt hit Thomas in stride, Bay-Bay takes it to the house. There's room for improvement, but at least Nesbitt knows what his guys can do, so I wasn't worried about any of the deep throws being picked off. This was the performance that we wanted to see in the Miami game and I hope it sticks.

While I agree, I would much rather Nesbitt under throw the ball to an open receiver (where he can slow down to catch it) than try to put it on the money and end up over throwing it.

We have two exceptionally talented wide receivers. They can both catch-if the ball is delivered somewhere in their zip code. Until Saturday, the problem was the ball wasn't getting there. Saturday Josh did a great job. I still get the impression he is more accurate when under duress, but regardless, having that additional weapon will be huge. Paul Johnson with that additional card to play now and then, will truly become the evil genius of play calling. This is the missing piece that will be responsible for the second year jump in overall offensive production that has been seen everywhere else Paul has coached.

Like Cox ... hahahahaa

I want to marry the option draw play to Dwyer. Seriously. I would divorce my wife to marry that play.

Our draw play to Dwyer is the ultimate bitch slap. Especially when it's run on 3rd and long to convert a 1st.

Seconded. Every time I realize that we're running that play, I can't help but say "Oh ****, here we go!" That play just seems like it can go yard at any moment.

Does anyone recall that play NOT going for 6 yards or more?

I'm wracking my brain, but it seems every time I remember seeing it we always get big chunks.

That play works so well because CPJ knows when to call it. Otherwise it would be shut down. CPJ deserves sooo much credit for why this offense works so well. It's sick because you never know what's coming from CPJ (unless if it is 3 and 20). His unpredictable play calling reminds me a lot of Sean Payton (coach of the Saints).

The first time we ran that play against UNC it got STUFFED.

I have not seen it get stopped since
