Could FSU Really Fall to 2-4?

I know everyone likes our chances this weekend, as do I, but if you look at it from the FSU perspective, will they really start off the season at 2-4? In the Bobby Bowden era, they have had only one 2-4 start and that was in 1976, which was Bowden's first year.

I have always said statistics are statistics for a reason. This alone is probably my one trepidation about the game.

This is bowden's last year in Tally and the ship is sinking fast. I see them winning maybe 2-3 more games max and this saturday isn't one of them.

If you take away the name "Florida State," they are just another floundering team. I truly don't think that will have an effect on this game at all. Most of our players were in middle school the last time F$U was truly relevant. They're 17-17 in their last 34 ACC games; 33-25 overall during that stretch. In comparison, our Jackets are 23-11 in the ACC; 37-21 overall during that same stretch.

Their fans wish they had a Paul Johnson right about now thats for sure!

Maybe it's just the name, but it's very difficult for me to see (1) FSU falling to 0-3 in the ACC, or (2) Tech winning one of these their-back-is-against-the-wall games that we NEVER seem to win.

Clemson 2008.

CPJ doesn't seem like the "save-a-guys-job" type coach. He is more of a "kick-the-guy-while-he's-down" type. Granted, we didn't get a chance to boot Tommy out the door, but we gave Dabo a loss in his first game.

I hope we lay it on them to the degree that the whole Bowden issue is closed for the rest of the season.

Don't think our back is up against the wall, but this is one of those opportunities to take a step up that we typically squander.

I hear what you're saying, but what I'm thinking is FSU is a talent laden team full of potential, but also full of contention and strife. If we come into Doak C and in the 1st Q roll over them offensively and catch a break or two on D (a pick or fumble) they will crumble.

If we stop ourselves with dropped passes or a fumble and let them get a couple of quick scores, we're in for a long night.

He's saying that FSU's back is against the wall.

FSU has all the reason in the world to win this game. It has come down to THIS game. It's at night, at home, after talk of your school's greatest coach retiring, and after a tough road loss...

THIS game is their turning point. If we beat them early, I have a feeling they're gonna give up. The problem is that I think they'll bring out the black jerseys and play their @$$es off for the coach and for the fans...

But yes, it's completely plausible for them to start out 2-4...

I really see this game going 1 of 2 ways. We weather the emotion of the first quarter, it is still close after one and the game comes down to the wire. Or, we punch FSU in the mouth out of the gate, their players quit, and we roll. I don't see any opportunity for FSU to blow us out like UM did, we learned alot from that game and are better for it and I think we have equal talent and better coaching.

FWIW, I believe F$U is 0-2 in the all-black "Imprisoned"...err, "Unconquered" uniforms.

I can't be comfortable with this game knowing that Tech has NEVER won in Tallahassee before and that we've only beat FSU once since they joined the ACC.

I know FSU is "just a name", but that name is 6-0 at home and had a 12 game winning streak against the Jackets until last year.

We are going to have to play FLAWLESS football and MUCH BETTER defense in order to win this game. Frankly, I think Vegas should have made us more of an underdog here. FSU has more reasons to win this game than I can count. This feels somewhat like the Miami game where they had something to prove. If we are asleep at the switch on Saturday and don't come out with MAXIMUM ENERGY, we are toast.

Remember, we haven't won at FSU since they joined the conference. Let's not kid ourselves here...

Or Egbuniwe and Morgan to have the game of their career.

I'm afraid that I think FSU playing crappily is more likely than our defense becoming good sometime in the next week. I hate to be so negative. This team reminds me of 1999.

At least the offense is doing pretty well.

I suppose all I can do now is have faith that the defense keeps working hard and improves. On the bright side, FSU is probably the best and most explosive offense we have left in conference. And in addition to their sketchy offense, VT gave up 400 yards to Duke. If we can somehow get past the Noles, I think we have a chance at going 7-1 in the ACC, despite subpar defense. I still believe that Miami will drop a game it shouldn't.

Summary: I think our defense is bad but I believe we could still win the ACC.

I don't know much about what was going on in 1999, but at least it sounds like the coaches are going to keep messing with the depth chart till they find something that works, rather than sticking with what they got and weathering the season, unlike some other people ***cough***J Cox***cough***.
