I am not sure that the rest of the country gives two hoots about a CU/GT matchup. At least with GT/ugag it is a rivalry game that people expect like:

USC/UCLA

Texas/Texas A&M

Oklahoma/Oklahoma St.

If we are doing it solely to sell tickets (away fans), then yes it makes sense. If we want to make out schedule more balanced in terms of the types of the games the home fans see (selling more home tickets), then it might not make sense. Also, look at our potential home schedule in 2014: Wake Forest, Virginia, Duke, Miami, Wofford, Alabama, and Georgia. Imagine if Miami is actually back by then. That could be crazy.

I have often argued for playing early so that the game does not loom over the conference schedule. We tend to lose about 75% of the time and it would make the holidays better not to have a fresh loss to them when it happens. But going forward we are all hoping for better so I don't know.

I think they would definitely outnumber us, say 65/35, if the tickets are distributed 50/50. Tech fans just don't want to have to put up with that **** as much as UGag fans. I don't think we bring anymore fans than we have season ticket holders and whats that, 30K at best? Parking would be horrendous so out of town fans would just not come and sell their tickets and the extra gaggers would lap them up. If we do it, Tech should sell parking spaces and bus people to the game for say $25 and that would help.

But I would be pissed off it this ticket was one of the season ticket package and we had to buy it to get our normal season ticket. That would be the final straw to me.
 
I don't like the idea, and never want to lose a home game to playing in the dome, but this is a business too. If it makes good financial sense, I can put up with it for one year.

We are enjoying the new things at BDS. If this helps pay for them (I want the fireworks back when we score a td too), then we need to get behind it and make it a success... for one year.

No, not for attention, simply to get Clemson on the even years. Because this seems to be the driving force behind any interest from Tech. We want to a decent home schedule on even years. Why do we move UGA? Don't give them an inch. I may want to beat Clemson every single year, but my season is not defined by defeating them. My season is defined by beating UGA.

I have no clue if this game would be included in our normal season ticket

There are just over 25K season tickets sold this year at BDS. Students were reserved (or bought) around 8 or 9K more.

We might be outnumbered slightly (60/40 max) at the Dome if the tickets are split 50/50.... but if you don't think GT fans would represent well, you are sadly mistaken.

Home field advantage is usually worth about 3 points, according to most bookies, as well as according to Sagarin.

The Dome would be at LEAST a home field advantage for Georgia, if not worse. 3 points away from us to them = 6 point swing = touchdown.

We're selling them a touchdown.


As long as they're paying enough for it, I might not mind.
 
Don't get me wrong. It's important.

But it doesn't define the entire season, nor does effect the other 11-12 dates (home and away) I get to enjoy Georgia Tech football.

Until more so-called Tech fans realize this factoid, we will continue to have a "Napoleon Complex."

You can want ACC titles and BCS championships, but I ask for only one thing from my team. One little thing, and for that, I will always love them. And that one thing is to beat ****ing Georgia. You can define the season however you see fit. But for me, it's simple - it's not a good season if we lose to them and it's not a bad one if we win.

There's a reason that we don't yell "To Hell with the other eleven teams we're playing this season."
 
The strong reaction against the idea of moving the game to the beginning of the season is due to the inherent perception of rivalry games played at the beginning versus the end of the season.

Moving to the beginning lumps us in with Louisville vs. Kentucky when we think of it in terms of Texas versus Texas A&M and all the other great rivalries.

Here's a compromise idea: Why not play Georgia twice in one year, at the beginning and the end?

Then the loser gets to get revenge in the same year or if someone sweeps then it is truly a coup.

It's really not. All you have to do is look at why our school colors came about(we wore them to cheer AGAINST Georgia in a baseball game when we didn't have a team), what it says on the Ramblin' Wreck(To HELL With Georgia), the entire set of lyrics for "Up with the White and Gold," and of course our favorite "word."

Beating Georgia is THE definitive Tech tradition and goal.
