In retrospect, how big was CPJ's decision to go for it on 4th and 3 on the 50 yard line during the first drive? We punt that, we may lose the game.

I love LOVE LOVE the fact that we're a 4 down team. I really get the feeling that the players (especially Josh) are starting to get it, the game is slowing down. 4th and 5 really should be no sweat - as we have some wrinkle to dial up 5 yards. That's gotta really piss off defensive coordinators - you can have a good defensive stand, and then give up on the 4th down conversion. I foresee a lot of <2 punt games in our future

I am with you on that, here is to hoping that it does not bite us in the ass though.

Even if it bites you in the ass, you are better off in the long run by going for it in similar situations given all of the studies saying punting is stupid in many instances. I guarantee CPJ knows of these studies/papers.

I am pretty sure CPJ would have punted there if he hasn't seen our non-existent defense in the previous drive. So I think if we had the first drive (which we should have since we recovered the fumble), we would have punted in that situation.

One important study was the previous drive in which FSU drove down the field at will!

That's a good point.

I'd like to see him go for 2 points every time we score a td. I think we'll make it more than 50% of the time.

It's a kick in the nads everytime we convert on 4th.

While I would like that too, its stress for the offense, without much payoff. Also, increases chances of injury, etc.. Also, it means giving away a play that could otherwise be used from the two yard line during a 3rd down.

Its not worth the few extra points we may get over the season, IMO.

While some of it may have been with how FSU scored at ease on their first drive, I feel Coach went for it because he saw something in FSU's D and our O that made him confident we'd make it with the play he called.

Also true.

Indeed, we did similar things to Miss St and I think UNC.
