PJ states "lack of waiver wire means....

To me it means he is not happy with the personnel he has on D. He knows he's stuck
with them, but if there was a waiver wire, he would replace a bunch. Let him get his
players in & I bet the improvement will be dramatic.

I listened to it...and did not take it that way at all. He has been getting the same question asked over and over about "what are you going to do about defense". That is when he goes into "only so many schemes without confusing players"...."there is not s waiver wire so you can only change personnel so much"....etc. etc. I think he was just running down the list as if to ask the reporters "what do you think we are working on?"

Yes, what you said.
CPJ was stating one of the immutable laws of college football, i.e., you can't trade, go to the waiver, or use free agency to get different players. Therefore it is up to the coaching staff to take the players (limited in number and perhaps ability) that you have and make the best team that you can from them. That might mean changing schemes, it might mean individual coaching, it might mean sitting someone and playing a different player. To me that is what made last year so truly amazing---most of CPJ's players were not his own, but the results were fantastic. CPJ and the staff are communicators and teachers. This defense will improve every week. It might never get to the point of being devastatingly good, but it will get better and better. As the individual players get more game time and more coaching in technique and scheme we will see improvement. Look at the difference between the team versus UNC and FSU compared to versus Miami and Clempsen. Sometimes problems have to first be revealed or exposed before they can be addressed. I would not want to play Georgia Tech late in the year.
