Question for the football masses

Do you have to be Student/Alumni to be a fan??

I got in an friendly argument with the douche bag at work. He is a transplant UGAy fan from Florida so former Gator but fits the Dawg nation quite well. He transformed due to his son going to UGAy and it took him 7 years to get his degree.. Anyways... I'll get on with the question.

He likes to state that you're not a real fan if you didn't go to the school , that anyone who is not a student/alumni is a blowheart that just pretends to be a fan. This comment really burns my ass but I want to know some folks opinions.
 
I'm not a student or alumni.... I go to UTK... Yet I'm still a fan because my fathers a die hard fan. I like the jackets more then UTK easily.
 
You shouldn't even entertain morons like that. He sounds like a pretentious ****tard. I didn't go to Tech and I defy anyone to find a fan bigger or more dedicated than I am.
 
I am not alumn. My father went to GT with an EE degree. Been going to All GT sports games since I was 5. Went to the Citrus bowl. Watched Price and Salley when they used to scrimmage preseason. Met Kenny Anderson and got his autograph. Not an alum. Noone can tell me I am not a diehard GT fan. I know a Mizzou alum who has BB season tickets with donations. Does that not make him a fan? If you support and cheer, then you are a fan. Not up for debate.

Actually guys I told him that. I run a pool each year for 9 years now and this guy put all this in the message board.

Then his family posted a racial video of a black lady from Florida struggling in a speech only to be followed up by saying they shouldn't let minorities into college.

At this point I deleted the posts and they all left my pool They had played for 5 years lol... I noticed they have a family pool now...

Strange guy to say the least!
 
Sorry but the boss/co-worker or whatever is a jackass. You have my deepest sympathies. As a matter of fact I think this is a stoopid poll.

Just curious if that video is the Florida Congresswoman speaking about "Percy Harvey" and "Go Gata"?

If so, it doesn't make the guy's comments right but it's still an embarrassment that one could be voted into public office speaking like that - and even more of an embarrassment that she's wasting taxpayer's time and money using the wrong forum to "congratulate" the state champs.

You're right, it was the one. It was a stupid use of a forumn but I chalked some of it up to nerves for the lady. But it gave no one the right to say that... Maybe I'm baised or a little close to it as my wife is black. But still I feel most people wouldn't agree with just makin that comment.

You guys would love the boss. Mizzou guy head engineer for years and now plant manager. He roots for the Jackets baby and hates UGAy..
 
I think you certainly gain a different perspective being a student or alumni. But it's not a prerequisite.

Agree on that. I am the only one in my family who is an alum but everyone else is a fan of Tech except for my Ugag sidewalk alum BIL. But at least he is not obnoxious about it, I have fixed his computer too many times.:laugher:
 
You definitely don't have to be a student/alum. I still think the BEST fans are those that have at least a good REASON to support a team. Examples like: parents/family went there, grew up in the area, respect the institution, etc. People that love Notre Dame football, Duke/UNC bball, and the Yankees/Red Sox/Patriots for no reason kinda make me angry.

Ummm.... maybe I'm missing something here, but this guy is a blowheart based on his own definition. He didn't go to ugay did he? Just because his son went there doesn't qualify him based on his own definition.

Good luck explaining this to him.
 
I have always been and always will be a die hard Tech fan thanks to my dad.

I don't know exactly why he became a fan - I just chalk it up to him being smart.

Neither of us went to Tech, and yet I promise we will be screaming louder than anyone on Saturday.
