keeping cpj

Why are we even talking about this now. Ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is that this is being brought up BEFORE the VATech game.

If we beat VATech, then this thread might be okay. Might be, as in, we'd still need to win the ACC to have any reason to start worrying. I still believe GATech is a solid head coaching job, and I wouldn't think CPJ would just leave so soon.

i agree with all said, but as the "spread option" or wishbone as the astute mr. davie called this offense gaining popularity, cpj will be sought after. moreover, he just, frankly is a great coach. he'll change whatever it takes to win. unlike richt, cpj's players both fear and respect him and will leave it all on the field. need to keep him. simple as that.
There's a lot of intangibles that other schools cannot offer him like we can. He has a great recruiting base, as well as a very good relationship with the high school coaches in this state. He's in a good, but not great conference. Meyer is a good comparison. Urban's offense is being adopted in a lot of other places, but I have a hard time seeing Urban leave UF, mostly because Urban is now the king of the state and can cherry pick the best recruits down there.

Paul Johnson might decide to chase money, and if that's the case, then I won't shed a tear. But, as has been said, he chose Georgia Tech. It's not like we were the only offer on the board.

In my mind, Paul Johnson is the most down-to-earth millionaire in existence.

He won't leave for another job or more money. He'll leave when he feels like he's accomplished everything he set out to do.

At least that's what I hope.

if money ever does become an issue, i would hope that maybe our great loyal fanbase should step up and fork out. the more we win, the more solvent the a.d. will be.

Plus CPJ loves him some golf... I think the golfing options are better in metro Atlanta than Nebraska.

Just off the top of my head...

SMU
UNC
Bama
Nebraksa
NCSU

all looked at PJ as a possible head coach while at NAVY, now everyone knows this really can work at this level (DUH) and he will get looks at other schools in the future, but I expect him to stay here as long as the ACC gets BCS bids.

I actually think GT is a pinnacle job for a guy in CPJ's situation. Most of the jobs that would be considered "better" than GT are at schools that would never consider running the triple option.

I think Nebraska is the only team we could have to worry about.

Well said.

Nebraska is not a step up as far as a coaching job. One, we have just as much prestige as a program if not more so than Nebraska. Two, their out in the freaking boone docks and can't recruit the caliber of athlete down the line like we can being in Georgia and especially Atlanta. Three, as a coach, you have an easier route to a BCS game in the ACC than you do in the Big 12.

I am worried about JD and MB leaving... not PJ. He's staying here as long as he wants to coach. I do not believe for a second we have anything to worry about.

timing aside, don't care what anyone says, but we'd better be planning to do whatever it takes to asure that cpj stays at g.t.
I think there are only 3 or 4 jobs he would be interested in, Notre Dame, USC, Ohio ST, Fla and perhaps Michigan

:D
Not ND. They are rivals with Navy and he wouldn't do that to navy.

Dang. That is one angle I had not thought of. Bravo. I don't think he would want to play Ken if he could avoid it. Still might be too much to ignore.

Not sure the Notre Damers would appreciate his approach to the press either.

Hopefully his wife loves the ATL. That is the wild card no amount of money is liable to overcome.

Anyhoo, my opinion is that PJ likes the region. He probably would be happy at UGA, UT-e, USC-e, FSU, Auburn, or UF and it would go downhill from there. Notre Dame always has the allure of the status a coach can achieve if he wins there.

Carroll, Tressel, and Meyer are practically permanent installments at their schools, and the former two schools are pro football factories, so they wouldn't hire Johnson anyway. Michigan will live or die with Rodriguez, and I doubt they would hire another coach to run the option in the future, regardless of how Rodriguez pans out. I don't really have anything to say about Notre Dame other than they suck.

Don't forget Paul Johnson has a daughter that goes to school in ATL. They were happy to be back in Georgia, and picked us over other schools.

This really is a non-issue at this point....but, Johnson doesn't seem like the money hungry type...he doesn't seem like a Bobby Petrino type either. If he and his family like Atlanta that should be enough. Hell, when you make 2.5 mil a year, is a raise to 3.5 mil really going to change your lifestyle that much?

PJ is happy and not gonna be leaving anytime soon. He is just getting this thing started.
