So what's the story on Ryan Stewart slapping Tommy Luginbill back in the day?

That '94 group was truly a case of the inmates running the asylum. From what I've heard, there was a serious racial divide on the team b/c B*** L**** started Luginbill instead of Donnie Davis. Haven't heard the story about Luginbill getting decked though.

What the hell is up with this quote:

"I felt bad about it. I liked Coach Lewis a lot but he had got himself into a no-win situation at Tech. A lot of people don’t realize there were some very important people that didn’t want him there. It was hard enough being hired two years after Tech won a national championship it may or may not have been deserved."

Deserved? What a freaking loser. How did we not deserve it? Idiot.

No wonder we get 0 credit with our recruits when a douche like this guy is evaluating talent.

Just about to reply to that. What a douchebag. He truly has no ties or care for the school to make a back-handed comment like that.

Luginbill is a douche but I think the "may or may have not been deserved" comment referred to the fact that people wanted Lewis gone from the get go.

I thought the same as you guys initially though. It is poorly worded.

Luginbill is a close personal friend of mine still to this day-talk to him all the time. he NEVER says anything bad about GT. Some of you need to chill a bit. You are right....we sucked in '94 (and my brother was on the team as well) but comments directed at Luginbill are crazy. A douche, etc......get real!

I wasn't old enough to witness the 94 debacle. I have mixed feelings about it because I've never seen any of those games and heard about there being lots of strife and in-fighting. At the same time I can't help but feel some level of loyalty to anyone that suited up in the white and gold.

I think you have a punctuation issue here in the transcription, not a dis at our MNF. Add a period after championship and it reads a whole lot different. I think he's questioning whether BL deserved the hate he got, not our legitimacy as MNF.

Further, I don't think he would have come here if he doubted the value of the program prior to his arrival.

When I've seen him on TV, he seems to always be very positive about GT.

Not to derail this thread too much, but I was never that aware of the luginbill/davis history. So I decided to go to the best research tool that exists....Wikipedia. For anyone interested, apparently Donnie Davis will be graduating this year with a BS in management

We crapped on him (and most of that team) so why would he be loyal to Tech?

That team crapped on themselves. I remember going to a party in 1994 right off of campus and walked out back to get some keg beer and there was the entire starting oline passing around a joint. So while I'm pouring my beer I mutter under my breath, "And you wonder why we suck so bad". Almost got my ass kicked for that comment.

Agree.

TL got his ass kicked multiple times by his own teammates that year at GT. (I know this for a fact as a friend shared a West Campus dorm room with his girlfriend at the time.)

TL didn't complain about it or publicly air his comments. To this day, he remains mostly positive about Georgia Tech even though we sucked.

There was some serious racial strife among the team, especially after that very tough opening loss to No. 1 Arizona.

I think that was the game than R. Stewart nailed a guy after he caught a touchdown pass in the endzone and jumped up celebrated and talked crap to him. Never mind the 6 points I hit you really hard.

For the nameless coach it all started with the FSU lose and, no offense to TL, but he should never have started ahead of DD.

It was made worse by the fact that DD was rate #1 and #2 in the country coming out of highschool with Eric Zeir who was beating us with very average Georgai teams.

Yep, the "it" in his quote referred back to the scrutiny, criti****, etc. directed at B*** L****. "It" did not refer to our MNC. I had Tom in Mac Moore's labor relations class, and he was a nice guy who actually showed up to class.

People need to chill out. It's hard to be successful as a QB and team leader when half the team quits on you. B*** L**** put Tom in that situation; not the other way around. You transfer in to a major D-IA school that is 4 years removed from a MNC, the coach names you the starter, and what, you're supposed to say "Gee coach, that's great and all but I don't want there to be the appearance of any racial preferences here." Gimme a break. He did the best he could under the circumstances. The real villians on that team are all the quitters who bitched about being victims instead of just playing the game. If Tom had played very poorly and the entire team played hard, then perhaps B*** L**** may have recognized the error and inserted Donnie instead. But if half the team quits, how was B*** L**** supposed to evaluate performance?
