Bobby Dodd didn't say that; I said that. Dodd was 12-10 against Georgia and eight of the twelve were in row. I know you know, but so many fans don't understand just how uneven the field is for us. If Paul Johnson gets us to a 50/50 record with them it should be ballyhooed as one of the truly amazing accomplishments in all of sports. Back to the original concept of this thread--I have said all along that the Georgia fans are disingenuous about their sentiments towards Georgia Tech---but they have owned us the last 30 years and have the luxury of pretending to be blase'. "Tech doesn't matter" has been the mantra. And in the few games that we have won, they have used that talk effectively to ease their own pain, and to diminish our joy. But three losses in row at the hands of the trade school cost Donnan his gig. I have never stopped believing that Georgia fans really, really care about beating Tech. they do, and soon they will have to admit it. I foresee a time when Georgia is beating Auburn, and beating Flarda, and beating Tennessee, and losing to Georgia Tech. TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!

College FB rivalries are always "what have you done for me lately."

Back in the mid to late 90's - Tennessee owned Bama (won 6 or 7 in a row) and UGA but had a long losing streak to Florida. Tennessee's primary rival was UF. Ask a Bama or UGA fan who their main rival was at the time and many would say it's Tennessee. UGA fans would also say Florida (not Tech). But Florida would say Florida State was their main rival (not UGA) as Bowden & Company took care of business against the Gators most years.

Our cycle with the mutts is 9-25 since 1975. But the good news is Paul Johnson has never lost to UGA.

And if that did happen, UGA has the resources ($$$) to attract virtually any top coach (head or assistant) they want. Unlike GT. Do in part because Georgia has more loyal fans then GT does.

I have to disagree with that not about the money but the fact that they have more loyal fans. This year im seeing fan after fan jump off the uga bandwagon.

Yes they are in a dive right now---but unlike Georgia Tech, they will not put up with mediocrity for six years---SIX YEARS KNOWING EXCELLENCE WOULD NEVER BE DELIVERED--before trying to fix it. Again I reference Jim Donnan. Donnan won a lot of games, but the faithful correctly concluded he would never get them where they wanted to go so ---boom, outta there. Richt will either get tougher and meaner or switch to the triple option or something or he'll be history. Georgia is always going to a hard game for us.

As for having money to afford any coach you want, that doesn't mean you'll get a great coach. UT and Arkansas have gobs of money. They spent that money and I don't consider either Petrino or Kiffin good coaches. I'm sure plenty of Navy fans were worried about beating Army seven years ago too.

I don't care if UGA allows prison inmates to spend their parole at Sanford. I don't care how low they lower their already below-sea-level admission standards for a kid that runs a sub 4.4 40 yarder. We have a coach. An honest-to-God winner. A guy that will not accept losing. I always want to beat Georgia. I hate them, with a pure, blinding hatred that rivals the heat of a thousand sons. And I expect my team to beat them every single year. Not every other year. Not two out of three. We're a better school, we get a better class of people on the field, and we're a better team. Period.

UT has spent gobs of money on their coaching staff. You may not appreciate Lane's ability as a Head Coach, but his father is a world class DC who the Vols lured away from the Tampa Bay Bucs organization. Ed Ogerton is a world class recruiter as is our old buddy Lance Thompson.

Tennesee spent mega bucks on their coaching staff that Georgia Tech could only dream of doing. Monetary resources are not a problem in Knoxville. But they are in Atlanta.

The Navy/Army compairson doesn't really equate to Tech/UGA. Navy and Army are on the same level field when it comes to academics, recruiting, and resources.

I hope GT beats UGA every year on the field. I've only missed one or two GT/UGA game in the last 20 years (Atlanta or Athens), so I will be there cheering the boys on regardless. BUT expecting the Jackets to beat Georgia every year is an entirely different story.

Paul Johnson and Urban Meyer are smart enough to know that expectations on the guy who barks after Richt will be to beat them. I'm sure they'll plan accordingly.

We didn't lose from '01-'08 7 straight games because UGA was too talented or had far too many advantages. We were in position to win 3 of those games with under a few minutes to play and arguably should have won in 2001 as well.

This decade, when have we been just completely outclassed by UGA?? 02, 03, and 07. If not for bonehead QB mistakes for two years, and a BS fumble recovery for a TD, GT would be 4-4 right now against UGA this decade.

Sorry, but this notion that GT is at such a disadvantage that at best we can only win 1/3 or 50% is rubbish. CHAN GAILEY was a few plays from winning 50% against UGA! In UGA's best years in their entire history! Think about that.

With CPJ trolling the sidelines, taking home a big boy paycheck ($2 mil+)...we should expect to beat them every year. There I said it. Let's stop making excuses. I guarantee that CPJ won't.

IIRC we had some amazing recruiting classes in 2000 and 2001 full of top GA talent (correct me if i'm out there with that). This is by far the easiest thing to change by simply beating UGA consistently. UGA's recruiting advantage over us right now has as much to do with the perception that comes from us losing to them for 7 straight years as it does from all the inherent built-in advantages they enjoy.

Maybe I'm missing your point but it looks like you're making my point for me. I would argue that most 17 yos are making a decision based on advice from those closest to them (not based on program history - recent or past). And those mentors may have the best intentions but most will have a built in bias toward UGA.

They buy UGA season tickets AND Tech season tickets, all in the same year. So they can go to our game.....because it's a huge rivalry.

I've never heard of a UGA fan buying season tickets to UF or Tennessee when they are buying UGA season tickets.

Because they can't. UF and UT have a waiting list for tickets like UGA (or they have to fork out a massive donation). If they have UGA season tickets, it's still easy and cheap for them to get GT season tickets. For those that don't have UGA season tickets, it's possible and cheap to get GT season tickets.

It's up to us to make it impossible for them. Hard to do when you have folks bitching about $50 tickets for non-prime seat locations. UGA, UF, UT fans feel fortunate to get in the door. And pay handsomely for the privilege.

I don't know, winning football games tends to change a lot of minds. The flip side to your argument is that Paul Johnson may not recruit the same players as who ever UGA wants. I'd assume that if Paul Johnson is recruiting a kid, he really means it, not simply trying to get as many stars as possible. Plus, many of those same people who love UGA also tend to love Erk.

The U had the same disadvantages in the 80s versus UF. If you go way back to the 70s FSU was taking leftovers after Florida, Georgia and Alabama picked theirs. Neither was even in a decent conference. Once they were winning, they were outrecruiting UF.

It isn't a perfect analogy, but it has more than a few similarities. If Clemson can outrecruit USC, and FSU and Miami used to outrecruit UF, there is very little reason that we cannot recruit with Georgie.

As much as they might have dressed as bulldogs every halloween since they could walk, most 17 y/os have the attention span of a flea. Do not underestimate the power of the ATL, particularly the power of the ATL music scene (which we are tied in to), to wash 17 years of "bulldawg" this and "bulldawg" that out of their heads.

In addition, the 2007 recruiting class, which some consider the best in the modern era at GT, was the year after we went to the ACC championship.

The fact is, we finish out this year strong and we will have to turn away kids we would love to have due to limited schollies.

We win big again next year, we will bring in the best recruiting class GT has had, including 2007.
