Stanford's List of Easy Classes for Athletes

buzzmd, let me honestly axe you something. take all the scholarship players on stanford and tech. give them a standardized test, or some kind of academic-based trivia. average score wins.

you'd put your money on tech? tell me that with a straight face.

Honestly, I have NO clue who would win. And that has been my point this whole time. YOU are the one who came out with a statement with no proof behind it. I am NOT saying GT guys are smarter than Stanford guys. I have no proof to offer that.

I knew you'd overreact to that.

One team is predominantly clean cut, sharp, alert looking people. Another is mostly guys who look like they just got off marta. Nows your chance to claim its all racial.

I'm sure you make judgments on appearance when people walk into your practice.

I can tell you I have no clue how smart someone is by just looking at them. Hell, many schizophrenics are near genius'es on IQ testing -- but that would never be apparent by their appearances or their "accomplishments." The judgements I make on appearance are usually as follows: "well-dressed, acts appropriate" or "disheleved, poor appearance."

You are making several assumptions that normally I see you bash others for.

read the bios, read the accomplishments, hell, look at the pictures.

you raise some good points. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, its just an opinion. I'll be honest- my perception of Stanford is that they recruit not just athletes, but scholar-athletes, from all over the country (they always have a very broad geographic representation). And I know Stanford has enough $$$ to hand out scholarships to worthy people.

I could be wrong- but my perception is that Tech goes after good football players, with academics only a possible hurdle for them to get over. Obviously good character traits matter as well. But them being able to cope academically is more of a challenge than a requirement.

yeah, stanford is overrated as near the top school in the nation.

this should make you happy - UGA is probably superior to Arizona, Wazzu, ASU, and a bunch of the rest of em. And Tech is better than UGA!

Happy?

so you don't think there is someone in the AA that has a list of the courses/profs that athletes should take?

I'd be ****ing amazed if almost every D1 school in the country doesn't have a list like that

I was never aware of a list when I was an "athlete." I think it was more word of mouth amongst the athletes. Typically, since I had priority registration, I would figure out what course I needed and then see which professor's class was filling up first. That was generally the one to take.

I work with a guy who was a scholarship athlete at Stanford.

According to him, if you were going to fail a class they would hand you over to a tutor who would "make" you pass. Aka do your work.

Take it FWIW.

You don't think athletes at GT get similar "help"?

Seemded like an entirely appropiate reaction to me. Glad you backed off of it, a little, later in the thread.
