Georgia Tech Movie/TV References

A few scenes in the movie "Stomp the Yard" were filmed at GT and they requested several of the frats and sororities as extras.

Also, just 3 weeks ago, Lloyd filmed part of a music video outside of Moe's in Tech Square.

That song is much more well known than you'd think. I've traveled internationally and heard it in foreign countries, and that's one of the first thing international people say to me when I tell them I went to Georgia Tech.

I know that. It STILL does not mean everyone who uses the phrase "hell of an engineer" in any context refers to Georgia Tech.

I'm pretty sure GT is mentioned in "Apollo 13". Tech is mentioned several times in "The Right Stuff" - book and movie.

Bill Cosby in his role as Cliff Huxtable once wore a GT sweatshirt on the show.

One of the members of Boyz II Men wore a GT hat while they performed in the New Year's Eve celebration on TV in 1990/91.

Anyone know what the Heisman Gym looked like?
It was a dump. The old wood floor basketball court was surrounded by a low tile covered knee wall. There was ugly yellow tile everywhere. We used to play intramural street hockey in there until they moved us to O'Keefe. Chain link around the equipment storage in the locker rooms. Large, cold, dark locker rooms. The part of the building closest to Grant Field housed the pool, which was actually a decent one despite being old. We had drownproofing there. There was a 10 meter high dive. The exterior had no character. It looked like a federal office building that hadn't been maintained.

FWIW, Tech grad Y. Frank Freeman has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Blind Side - uga/Tech basketball game in background of one scene.
I think Tech is briefly mentioned in "Drumline" too

I Google searched IMDB and there is some interesting stuff if you want to wade through it..

I think that was filmed in Atlanta, and the game on the TV clearly shows Luke.

...

Speaking of which, does anyone know what year Tech stopped requiring drownproofing?

I'm remembering the football players in my class weren't big fans -- something about muscle mass, BMI, and buoyancy.

Seriously? No Road Trip?

Road Trip was filmed in Athens, at Emory (playing the part of UT-Austin) and Tech.

The most recognizable Tech portion of the movie is the classroom and building at the end of the movie - when he's trying to make the last final exam. I had History in that room, as did most other Tech freshmen.

Also in the movie, the "Boston University" administration building is actually the first floor of the Tech Tower.

It is the DM Smith building on Cherry St. I had an INTA class in the lecture shown in the movie.

There's also a part in the movie near the beginning I think, where you can clearly see the library or Skiles in the background.

Isn't there a new movie called "5th Quarter" about a Wake Forest player that has the ACCCG in it? I'm sure it ends like the Rudy movie with everyone holding up 5 fingers as the hero defeats a powerhouse GT team. It's hard to get excited about a 9-6 outcome, but I'm sure Hollywood will figure out a way. I wonder if it'll be rainy.

I'm pretty sure I remember one of the officers in Generation Kill yelling "Go Jackets!" in one scene.
