Well,...that comment should satisfy any doubters. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Seriously, who knows? I know Rad was kept under wraps until yesterday morning, and it was M Knobler that shook any info from the tree at all. If anyone here knows anything about Rad, no one has shared it.

In my Utopian world, Rad was a very hard catch for Clough, and he made it clear that what he cares about is winning championships at Tech, and that's it. And, anyone in the way of that goal has to leave, including himself if the Hill is not willing to allow him to achieve that. Hopefully in this scenario, Clough has cleared the way.

On my practical side, I fear the worst and the worst is very bad.

I will have to say that I am impressed how doc' Clough was able to lay a smoke screen as good as he did.
Can anyone prove that he is not actually a CIA operative working under cover?

LOL..."...that should satisfy any doubters." Can't you hear him saying, "Well, of course when the LSU job opens, I cannot wait to fill it!" LOL

The job, by all accounts was his. all he had to do was stay, Then why did he leave?

Well, reportedly it was his...maybe he didn't quite buy that? If it was such a done deal, why has he been a candidate other places recently? Also, we play pretty damn well for our current AD, maybe we outbid them?

One big reason for leaving is Louisianna is still like a war zone, will be that way for a year or 2 more. Labor is very, very short. I know wsomeone who went fishing there 2 months ago and it took 4 tries to get a waffle. The cook, after working 48 straight hours, he burnt 1 to charcoal, dropped 2 on the floor. He has 2 teenage kids and a wife. Given an out to live in Atlanta and get a raise and a promotion, it's a no Brainer.

Your pessimism rivals that of Lloyd's optimism in dumb & dumber. "1 in million" "So you're saying there's a chance!"
I guess Rads is gonna give Chan a 10 year contract as he heads out the door to LSU in 5 years, huh? I think that he fully intends on staying here until the job is done. If he decides to leave you cross the bridge when it comes to you. But, sometime just sometimes you can take people at their word. I guess I'm just not old and cynical enough yet. But, when he leaves in 2 years you can scream "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" and my path to cynicism will begin.

This is very similar to, though not exactly the same as, the situation Bill Belichik was in a number of years ago. He was second tuna to Bill Parcells (I know that the proper term is "banana" and not "tuna", but Parcells is the "tuna" and not the "banana", so I used some literary license) with the promise that he was going to be head "tuna" himself as soon as Parcells left.

Yet on the eve of his coronation to being the head tuna for the New York Jets he left to become the head guy for the New England Patriots. Why? I'm not sure but the results have been pretty spectacular for the Patriots and Bill Belichik, right?

Not even close, Houser.

However, I should have said pessimistic rather than practical.

My actual practical sense is I just don't have any idea why this gentleman wants to be AD at my school. I don't say that negatively. I just hope he has the desire to prove that smart kids can win championships, and will do what it takes for however long to make that happen.

I don't understand this pocket_watch. You're saying you don't know why someone would want the Tech job? Like we're not good enough for him? Why can't it be that he wants to be the man of his own program?

We're a pretty weird fan base if you ask me. On one hand we think we should be competing at the top level, but on the other we have a serious inferiority complex. You know, we can't find a HC better than Gailey, why would a guy from LSU want to come here?

I think that he is one to take on challenges and has been looking to make a step into being an AD. I'm sure that he sees this as an opportunity to be one of the best by taking a football team that has history and re-elevating it to prior glory. With the market Atlanta has there is no reason that selling out Bby Dodd @ Gr. Field shouldn't be happening. I think that he'll be able to get it done.
I think the prev. admin. lacked vision and we're about to have a shot in the arm. I guess that's my optimism but (Enter MLK VOice)I have a dream that one day bobby dodd will be filled by children and grandparents to the tops.... of the corners.... of every grandstand!!
I'm just pretty confident that we hired the right man for the job. There are a lot of "I think's" because I don't know whats gonna happen but I do know that I'm a little more excited looking forward.

NO, NO, NO!!!

That is not my question, and I thought I made clear it wasn't asked in a negative way.

An easier analogy would be if he had two AD jobs to choose from, both at schools that he had no prior affiliation with.
(Hell, maybe he does have an affiliation with someone at Tech and I just don't know about it. Like I said I have no idea)

I just asked what his motivation is to be AD at Tech. If what you say is true, that may be a problem.
I think we all agree that the football HC job, and the AD job at Tech have unique and sometimes frustrating hurdles that other schools in D-1 don't have. I think LSU is one of those places.
Throughout recent history, coaches including ADs have freely talked about the restrictions from the Hill.

Again, I haven't even heard Rad speak about this new job of his, but when I do I hope that he talks about the satisfaction he will enjoy by proving that tough minded universities (institutes for those that bristle at the "U" word) can and will produce champions on the field.

I just want to feel good about Rad knowing the difference between LSU and Tech.

Mine was Not a negative post.

Re: I just heard it !!

Kincaid just asked the question I wanted an answer on.

First of all, we just had an AD get on the radio and not make an ass out of Ga. Tech! When was the last time anyone can say that? Immediate improvement, Ba-bee!

Regarding his answer to the question "Why Tech?", he first replied Location, Location, Location and then went on to say wtte that there are very smart students that are also very good football players, and it's the job of the coaches to find them, and that is what we will do at Ga. Tech. HooRah!! I just wanted to hear him say it.

Kincaid also asked him what he was going to do about the sticky question about CG's unsigned contract. Rad said only that he is looking forward to sitting down with Coach G face to face. Nothing committal. Hmmm? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned that Gailey was quoted in the AJC this morning as having already called Les Miles and Lou Saban to get their opinion of Radakovich. CCG must have made those calls in a hurry since the selection had only been announced the morning before. Sounds like he may be having some concerns himself. Maybe Radakovich's first responsibility is to evaluate CCG's performance and his five year extension and see if there are any caveats or clauses that need to be added to the agreement before it goes to Chan.

Re: Chan\'s contract is solid

I don't doubt you, but since you seem to be in the know, pray tell us why, since it's been on the table for so long, the ciontract hasn't already been signed. In any event, Chan's hurried phone calls, although understandable based on my 40 years experience in the business world, certainly appear to be the reaction of a person who's concerned about his future in the organization.

Re: Chan\'s contract is solid

Chan should be concerned. But that doesn't mean it's a panic situation. He knows Radakovich comes from a school that has both high expectations and high performance. I'm sure he wants an insider's view of how he works with coaches and any info on his manner, etc. I don't see it as any problem or issue, it's just real life.

Re: Chan\'s contract is solid

I talked to Chan last night and trust me he isn't concerned abotu the contract. He is very upset about the bowl loss and takes the blame himself. He faced some interesting questions last night and answered them honestly and matter of factly.

I told Chan how upset I was over the inconsistency and made my feelings known and some others as well and he agreed. we spoke for about 20 minutes before and after his speech and it was very encouraging.

Re: Chan\'s contract is solid

RM-

Where did Chan speak last night? What did he have to say? Can you post a summary?
