Is the lowest I've seen since the 1980-83 period. And I've been watching for 40+ years.

Is it more our recruiting or the Hill? Has the Hill's admit policies changed that much since Gailey's 2007 recruiting class that was so good?

(Deciding to post since so upset) - Can we not get Giff Smith back? I thought he was released when Gailey was.

It's both. Academics absolutely hamper our recruiting significantly, but CPJ also recruits much worse than Gailey did with the same (or very similar) restrictions.

And don't give me any crap about preseason recruiting stars; it's clear from looking at the talent on the field that CPJ's recruiting is worse than Gailey. Some two stars turn out to be very good players, and some three stars turn out to be great players. Being able to identify those players is part of recruiting too, and something that Gailey (or someone on Gailey's staff) seems to have excelled at in retrospect.

UGA proved that its 2nd and 3rd stringers are better than GT's starters. That's a really wide gap that GT won't overcome in the near future.

I'd bet this is the least talented Offense roster. D...about the same.

It's the Hill compounded by how unattractive the offensive scheme is to recruits, our talent level is as bad as I've ever seen it and unless fundamental changes are made it will not get much better. CPJ will not change the scheme and the Hill refuses to compromise admission standards in the name of better talent and the potential to win more games so we're stuck in the position we are. 1-14 against our biggest 4 rivals in the last 4 years like another poster noted.

Maybe if the offense next year looks as balance as it did in last night's game it can be more attractive to skill position players although I doubt CPJ will come back to running the offense like he did in his OC days at Hawaii.

This. Our ööööty offensive scheme compounds the recruiting problem.

The only area where I don't think we have talent is on the Oline. I think are Oline and coaching there is terrible.

There is nothing unattractive about the O. Dwag journalist and bloggers created that crap to counter CPJ when he was hired and the whole state bit hard. Guess they do run it. How boring were the first four possessions yesterday? All I saw were Tech fans jumping up and down with ugag fans crying and moaning.

Talent is an issue in general, but I think depth was the bigger in yesterday's game. We simply don't have it, especially on defense. We contained the run for the first 3 quarters, but were tired out by the end of the game. We had a cornerback who they (and basically everyone else) picked on time and time again, and yet he's apparently the best option we had. I think this is where our less-than-full recruiting classes have hurt us.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks our O is boring when it's working is a moron. Whether or not we can get the players to make it work consistently against stiff competition is a whole different question.

Broadcasters on T.V. (don't remember who) yesterday said that "top talented" offensive recruits avoided option schools like Tech because they wanted to be in a pro-type program. The "Hill" argument is null if recruits don't "like" your offense.

Defensive talent is as weak as Offensive. So it can't be just O scheme.

I'm hoping Roof can fix it as he is known for recruiting. Half the Dline is weak. Linebackers are not a factor. DB's might be more due to coaching and injuries than anything.

Oline is not good, and that is taking account of the injuries. A combination of coaching and talent level.

Yep, we were lucky to have no injuries. Definitely weren't missing Deon Hill, Morgan Bailey, Freddie Burden, Chase Roberts, and Anthony Autry on offense.

I also enjoyed watching Fred Holton, Isaiah Johnson, and Jamal Golden star at safety. Anthony Harrell had a great game, too.

Drop the injury bullshit. They are injured, but so are we. We played them straight up and very easily could have won. Mason had a hell of a game with Murray out, so they didn't miss much of a beat. Having Gurley back also clearly helped them last night.

Through 3 quarters, our defense did as good of a job as anyone has on Gurley.

Everyone is injured this time of year.

The difference is that they came out flat, and they have the talent to overcome the flat first half.

We came out flat at Clemson (and MTSU last year and on and on) and we don't have the talent to overcome a poor start.
