I had mentioned in another ND travel thread that the Georgia Tech Chicago Alumni Network (GTCAN) would be sponsoring a bus + tailgate option to get from Chicago to South Bend. We finally have things up and running.

Pickup location: Downtown Chicago

Departure time: TBD, likely 8 am

Includes: bus transportation to and from South Bend, a tailgate with food, and beer on the bus and at the tailgate.

Cost: $85 (link to pay)

We started selling tickets on Wednesday and are already at 80 people signed up. The cap will likely be 150 or 200 (3 or 4 buses).

If you have any questions, I can try to answer them based on what was talked about at our leadership meeting this past week.

Thank you, sir. Booking now for me and my son. Much more convenient than Amtrack, and MUCH cheaper than the Alumni Assn ripoff ($265)

Just booked it! Thanks for the heads up!

I'm in for 10 with my group - bought yesterday. Thanks for organizing!

There should be a bus trip like this from Atlanta. That would be a drunkfest for sure.

Just figured I'd ask... Any discount for minors who can't partake in the beer?

Also it would be neat to arrange some kind of optional campus tour when we get there. Any plans for that?

Any more details on itinerary? Time of departure from South Bend? Arrival in South Bend? How long do we have to be on campus?

I'm in. What kind of beer is going to be supplied? Chicago is home to some great local beer.

It's freaking beer for heavens sake!!! :dunno:

The bus will leave an hour after the game ends. With it being a 3:30 game, I'd guess about an 8 pm departure.

Departure from Chicago will likely be 8 or 9 am. That will give about 3 hours before game time.

There aren't any plans to offer discounted rates. I can ask, though.

I don't know if ND offers campus tours on gamedays.

It won't be local craft brews.

That's the transportation I was considering before you announced this. Part of their package is a campus tour. I don't know if it is official or not. Wondering if maybe we could arrange an unofficial one if necessary. I can always do some kinda self guided thing if I need to, but it's more fun to be guided and hear all the fun facts from someone in the know.

Hopefully 8. It's a 2:30 pm game local time, right?

South Bend is EDT, so 3:30pm game time there. Almost missed the first quarter in 1997, because I thought it was CDT.

Thanks, Gobees for clarifying that it is indeed the eastern time zone. Chicago is in the central time zone, so the trip will lose an hour going there.

At last count we are at 153 with a cap of 200.
