2020 Recruiting

Coach also implied in that interview that they are holding open three slots for the transfer portal or grad transfers. I don't know where he will find those slots, but I'm glad that is the plan.

You would think that one HAS to be a TE. Depending on Sims one could be a QB.

Anyone have any ideas what might be a priority for the staff. Another OT to teach the young ones?

I think it's reasonable to believe that every single position group on the team will be improved. Not sure about TE. In some cases we will improve simply by development, but in other cases we will have new or returning faces that will be real improvements over some of the young men who were fighting hard at the end of the season.

1. I agree every single position group will be improved but I think most of the short term improvement will be improved play of the returning players. We lost very very little, and the players coming back are another year older/bigger/stronger and have another year in the system. We will have a few new starters but the main impact for recruiting class of 2020 will be in depth added. (QB may be totally outside this.)

2. I worried about finding the slots for filling this class, without mentioning xfers. But then for weekend chuckles I broke down the depth chart for 2020. Now I realize, we good letting enough people focus the rest of their time at GT on the classroom.

We have room for some hard conversations without touching the product on the field.

If we reach for a xfer it would be a TE, and we'd obviously like a lineman xfer. But I hope (and I expect) we will chase quality, not quantity on the transfers. The college football road is littered with xfers who either never see the field or shouldn't have seen the field. So expect the xfers to be players he likes, and not faceless jersey numbers of positional relevance.

And, subtle point, we still do not want to alienate the holdover players from the last regime. CGC has done a masterful job of that this past season, and he should not suddenly get clumsy now. Like it or not, the 2020 team will see most of the playing time from players from the recruiting Class of 17 and Class of 18.

Reckon this will be Khatavian Franks, yeah?

Somebody help me with numbers. 24 would imply they still count Wiggles? Or am I mistaken?

Hmm. So it could be Franks and Sims, but Sims wants to do a hat show with Maryland and FSU. Probably Franks and Morton. My wish is, of course, Jones and Newton because I am confident we get the others.

We need Newton because of juice
