100% confidence in O-line

Good comments to hear, but honestly what does anybody expect to hear from coaches? "Well I'm 70% confident in my guys."
No, I think he would just stay silent like he has the previous three pre-seasons.

And he’s smart enough to know that if our OL gets abused, he will look like a doofus so I think its meaningful.

We will know very soon if he’s blowing smoke.

Just curious, how manybof Key's OL recruits have transferred out? I know of Michael Rankins but there are probably others.

If Sims is better at getting rid of the ball and spotting run lanes, our OL will look better.
Yes and no... If the O line isn't opening lanes and/or letting the other team's D run wild....then yes. That is on Sims. The O line has to give Sims the opportunity to succeed. So, yes.. as they work to give chances, they should look better.

Rankins didn't transfer anywhere else... he just quit football IIRC. Spiers is the only other CBK OL not on the team anymore. He had to medically retire and is a student coach.

I am suddenly a super fan of walk-on and surprise play time candidate Joe Fusile, mentioned in the first article. He is big and had offers elsewhere but he was going to be a Yellow Jacket "whether they wanted me there or not". Man that almost brought a tear to my eye. Dude is just a R-F so he must be really bringing it. Oh yeah, he's an EE major. True Jacket!

Echos of Sean Bedford.

Kootsouradis- is he still here?

I'm having a hard time thinking of more than 9 OL recruits from 2020-2022 signing classes. That's only 3 a year. I believe 2019 only had 2 as he came to The Flats late. Guess we're relying a lot on transfers- Tchio (So), Quick (R-So), Adams (R-Fr), Robinson (R-Fr). Those plus Lefwich, Franklin, Williams, Maye, Green, Vaipulu and Lay are what we got plus the true frosh

Don’t forget about joe Fusile. He is supposed to be having a good camp. Not to disparage him, but every time i see his name, I think of this!

He is still here, working his way into a backup role.

2020
Williams - starter
Kootsouradis - working into backup role
Green - in 2 deep, possible starter

Rankins - quit football
Vaipulu - in 2 deep, possible starter
Spiers - medically retired
Johnson (T) - graduated

2021
Franklin - starter
Leftwich - in 2 deep, possible starter

Cochran (T) - graduated
Kirby (T) - graduated
Pendley (T) - medically retired

2022
Gibson - likely redshirt
Best - could work into 2 deep
Mooney - likely redshirt
Adams (T) - in 2 deep, possible starter
Robinson (T) - in 2 deep, possible starter
Tchio (T) - in 2 deep, probable starter
Quick (T) - in 2 deep, probable starter

Then we also have Will Lay who has plenty of game experience and will probably be on scholarship this year if he hasn't been put on already. Fusile is another walk-on guy that could potentially work his way into a scholarship. So that's 13 scholarship guys (15 if you count the 2 I just mentioned) from 2020-2022, 9 recruits and 4 transfers. 2020 class I believe it was we also had Trent Howard committed and he flipped to Clemson late. His dad and Dabo were roommates at Bama or some sort of connection there. I believe Spiers was picked up to take that spot. Pendley started 2 or 3 games for us and was getting the highest PFF grades before his injury last season. No clue what the deal with Rankins was. He was the 2nd highest rated OL we signed that year. A lot of the transfers of late have been backfills for those medicals and Rankins. Quick was c/o 2019, Tchio and Adams 2020, and Robinson 2021. IIRC Minihan and Cooper could have both stayed and played their "super-senior" Covid year but both had pretty significant injuries that made them decide to hang up the cleats.

I hope to be singing this Beatles song this season:
"I've got to admit it's getting better (better)
A little better all the time (it can't get no worse)"

Great stuff, although Lennon singing the double negative “it can’t get no worse” is a little worrisome in this instance.

These are Key's guys, so he can't point to anyone except himself if they look lost. That said, they're mostly underclassmen with limited game experience. Also O-Linemen probably benefit from game experience and years in a college S&C program as much as any position. Hopefully we finally begin to see proof of concept in 2022, even if not yet a dominant O-Line.

...I'm going to get the biggest chub when I see a P5 DL getting pushed off the ball by my Jackets. I'm hopeful this is the year.

Sorry, but TALK is SO cheap. If this group of OLs become a capable unit , I will laud him to the heavens but based on previous history--dat ain't gonna hap''en.
