Meh …that game was winnable…..dominated the 1H and then the blocked punt. I’m sure Key is a nice guy but as far as I’m concerned you lost your opportunity to participate sucking at your job for 3 years. He’s can’t recruit and we need that in this arms race

The thing I find somewhat baffling is how we have gone from where we were to where CBK has moved the program in less than two weeks. (3) The play of our DB’s has been pretty darn good the last two weeks. We have faced, imo, a couple of decent quarterbacks and faired pretty well. i realize we gave up late yardage to Pitt, but overall they seem to be in better position to make plays and knock down a few balls.
(4) Our defensive game plan and game play is something we haven’t seen on a consistent basis in a long while. I don’t know if Thacker was hamstrung by previous coach or not, but what I do see is a more aggressive defense and play calling that will make you pay if you don’t account for all the players in the box. I also see us with the ability to get some pressure with the front four a good portion of the time.
(5) I think CBK has brought a different attitude to the table and the players have seemed to embrace that attitude.
(6) We are taking care of the ball offensiveLu and it shows with ZERO turnovers in the last two games. Sims has made some poor decisions and gotten away with most of them, but I also think he was way better against Duke than he was with Pitt.

I don’t know if we will stay on this track but it is definitely fun to be back in this position again. I could see us winning 3-5 more and becoming bowl eligible which is way more than what my and some of your expectations were just a few weeks ago.

Good points. I have to give the devil his due, Tech has looked like a different team so far. Both lines are young. The DTs really seem to be coming into their own this year. The transformation on D has been kinda stunning. The OL is also pretty young. So improvements there can’t be overlooked even if they are still spotty.

All the coaches are auditioning for a job right now, so it’s not likely that anyone will appear unprofessional by throwing Collins under the bus. Which is too bad because to hear them rant about him would probably be comedic gold.
The closest thing we’ve seen is Key speaking about playing to win instead of not to lose.

Collins would have lost both those games and probably badly. A win is a win.

I think it would be more sad and anger-inducing than funny. Certainly Key seems pissed off when alluding to it.

Though on that note, Key has to prove he can follow that philosophy about playing to win throughout the game. Some of the decisions and playcalling (maybe more on Long but Key has to tell him not to call that way) got real conservative as we got a lead.

A particular string that I have chosen not to pull, but is probably worth noting to assuage the anti-Key posters, is that those rumors of Key going to USCe were 100% true. He was out the door and got talked into staying by some alumni friends for a lot of reasons, but what was conveyed to me was that he was very upset by the way the program was being run and felt it was reflecting poorly on the assistant coaches when it was a Collins issue. Those same alumni have wanted to pull a Lewis-O'Leary move for a long time.

Since GC was a defensive coach, I can only assume he micromanaged the defensive calls and especially game plans, which is pretty typical of a defensive or offensive specialist who become head coaches. It works out for some but it also can overwhelm HCs who probably should delegate this duty rather than micro manage it. The offense feels not too much different than before but the defense has dramatically improved so yeah, I think GC was hurting the defense.
 
I don't know what the former coach was doing and I don't know what Coach Key has changed. All I know is that there has been a noticable change in demeanor, effort, and attitude as well as a measurable statistical improvement.

Give me more. 'Hoos going down!
