15 of 20 frosh will get significant playing time..............

I wont comment on who I believe will be the magic 15 number, but I am kind of excited about it. I think many will play on the special teams and then be included in 2 and 3 deep. Freshmen on special teams are pretty fun to watch. They are so pumped up and ready to prove themselves that they will hit anything moving as hard as they physically can. Example, Chris Reis. Another thing, I like the idea of playing as many freshmen as you can. This may be a down year although I stand firm on my 12-0 prediction. We will have to prepare for the future now. Look at what UVA did. I realize they had a top recruiting class 2 years ago, but look how promising that program is right now. Hopefully we can get that way. Good play from young kids will bring in the fans also. Tons of excitment.

Unfortunately there is little real positive about playing 15 true frosh. It says much about at least the depth of your team if not about the quality.
I noticed no one even mentioned the possible consideration of an overwhelmingly talented Fr class which actually may be better than the upper classmen.I too doubt this is the prime mover in this.
It will be interesting if not pleasant.

Ala Gold, I tend to agree. The real reason ;I'm afraid the real reason to play as many as 15 fr. is not only depth , but also lack of quality and I also don't think 15 will be ready to play! Kind of scary but like you say interesting!

Guys...it is real simple.

We are only carrying 70 scholarship players into the season (at best) instead of the normal 85.

You normally redshirt about 15 of the 85 each year and the rest play.

So...everyone will get a chance to play this year...particularly at DL, LB, RB, and QB. Especially the front 7 on defense...and that could mean some long afternoons (i.e. the Auburn running game).

ahso... you make some very good points... you old goat, ... tell your sawbones to double or triple your medication, we are agreeing more and more.. Ha Ha !

gentlemen... gailey has absolutely no right to make statements about incoming freshmen & what role they may play... they have yet to arrive on campus and show what they may do... This is an absolute absurbity ... gailey is grasping for straws... someday all you little boys will look on BeeBad as your sage when you realize that gailey was no more than fool's gold...

What does gailey's statement about playing 15 true freshman say to the returning players? Here's what it says... "You are O'Leary's guys.. I'm going with MY guys"..

Beebad:
Here is your card.

I think if we have to play 15 fr. that we have a depth problem! Now I don't at the same time think that is all bad either! Over the course of a good normal squard that maybe 8 or 10 might see significant action. It is exciting to see the young guys play.

Beebad, it doesn't say anything other than we have major depth problems. We could have 5-10 true frosh in the two deep just by default. The kids will play because it's either walk-ons or true frosh.

We have scary depth problems at DL, WR, RB, LB, and spots in the secondary. When you are 15 ships short, lots of kids are going to play.

BeeBad, I will tell you the realistics of possibly depending on the freshmen.

If a coach knows some players quit on him because they did not like him, wanted to get rid of him, and did not give their best, they now have only two options.

There are now two recruiting classes available to replace those not loyal to the coach and the team. There are the sophomores and new freshmen to blend in with remaining players that are willing to give it their all.

A player now has only two options, get with the program and give it their best, or the freshmen, sophomores, and loyal players will be on the field. The others will be on the bench.

If there are any dissatisfied Juniors, they will probably transfer. If there are any dissatisfied Seniors, they will stay around and get their degrees, but will be gone at the end of the year.

I expect most of the players will be on the same page this year, and we will not have any team wide attitude problems.

Even if there are a few remaining that do not like Gailey from the Junior and Senior classes, I feel sure they like Nix on the offensive side of the ball. I do not know how the players interact on the defensive side of the ball with Tenuta, but I am willing to bet, they like Spencer.

I feel there will be much more unity with this team than last year's team. If Gailey makes it through this year, next year's team will probably be solid in its common goals.

If the football team has a good year, the tutoring process has no further problems, Hewitt has a good year, and Joseph has a good year, I believe the big money alumni will ease off their offer to buy out Braine.

I would suspect they would like to hold their money in reserve if possible. It seems reasonable to me if I were in there shoes.

If things turn sour, look for the big money alumni to open up the wallets.

Tenuta demands respect. This guy is the real deal. When he speaks everyone shuts their mouths and listens. The players like Tenuta but even more they respect him a great deal. He puts them in positions to shine and bust heads. A pray every night GT is able to keep this guy around. D coordinator, head coach, whatever. This guy deserves a head coach job, and will get it pretty soon.

Beebad, how can Gailey have no right to make comments about ANY players? It's his team and they are his players. He has the right to say anything he damn well pleases. Now he might get himself in hot water if he says things that are stupid or don't come to pass, but he certainly has the right to say them. Sometimes I wonder if you even understand your own comments.

I think the freshmen playing comment by Gailey is in reference to bodies playing BECAUSE OF LACK OF DEPTH. Now, will those freshmen have what it takes, I don't think he even knows yet - but have to believe he's HOPING SO under the current circumstances.

For what it is worth, Vanderbilt,Duke,Navy and Army usually play ALOT of true freshmen. Nothing to get excited about there.

BOO

Beebad,

It seems I assumed a little too much about your football knowledge, so let's back up a little. There are 11 players on the field at a time, however, you need players for offense and defense. Many times your players get tired or injured so you need other players to come in and take their place. That is called "depth" When a team only has about 50 returning scholarship players, they need incoming players to add "depth" hopefully that makes some sense.

Ready or not these new kids must play, because we don't have anyone else.
