#16 - Trent Howard OL

You have to think CBK knows everything about pretty much all the OL in AL FL and a few other places. I am sure he has an actual or at least mental list in rank order. The key is not the ramk order. It is a line on the list where everyone above the line can play, in his opinion.

I am also sure that list of playable OL is longer than the nimber of offers he could make at Bama. Some kids he may have strongly believed in but he could not convince Saban to go with.

OL are that way. I don't think CBK was more than a 2 star guy and I believe he was a 4 year starter. It is good to ooze ability but there is more to the position than that.

I suspect CBK knows who he wants and just had to convince the boss. The discussions may have been on the order of let's take at least one mean guy and are they tall enough for Geoff?

I trust CBK and do not care what the star count is.
 
I trust the coaches. After all, it's their jobs that are on the line. These guys handing out stars have never coached a day in their lives
at a P5 program. I'd really like to know what is the difference between the #18 rated safety and the #19 and how these guys quantify
that difference. A half inch in height, 5 pounds of weight, a better high school program? Maybe they just flip a coin.

That’s not the point. The point is that the difference between the #18 safety and the number #38 safety is noticeable. As when anybody ranks anything.

Not always. The act of ranking does not equal separation.

There is a point, particularly with HS athletes, where you can throw a hat over a whole bunch of them.
 
I think more coaches look at camp measurables also. Shuttle times, 40 times, stuff like that, in addition to watching tape. If a guy looks great on tape and runs a 4.45 40, then he can be safely called a 4 or 5 star. If he looks pretty good on tape at the same position, but runs a 4.7 or so, he would be ranked slightly lower - I'd guess
 
At this point in time I am extremely confident in this staffs evaluation ability, something IMO is the most important ingredient in recruiting, not to low play the other ingredients at all, so I'm really comfortable with where we are and where we are going, I just think they really know what they are doing when it comes to recruiting. The proof comes 4 years out.
