1st Commit of 2017 class

Seems legit. Punters and Kickers should never be a weakness for us, and it seems as though CPJ pays a lot more attention to these areas nowadays.

Special teams are statistically more important to outcomes. Having solid punting and kicking is a big plus.

Maybe it's because this is the first piece of exciting news in a while, but I'm turnt all the way up. This commitment could encourage solid defensive players to come to Tech for some field position.

C'MON PRAGMATICALLY MINDED ATHLETES, WE BESTOW CONSISTENTLY ADEQUATE AND SOMETIMES GREAT FIELD POSITION UNTO THEE

Statistically more important than what?

Passes thrown per game?
Uniform colors?
Big cries posted the week of the game?

After further review of the offense last year, we clearly need more punters.

The best way to get the taste of a failed third down attempt out of your mouth is to gargle with a monster punt. It fires up the crowd and the defense.

Definitely true, but I recall CPJ saying that teams don't prioritize recruiting kickers, because if they happen to not work out, there is no place else on the field to put them. Most of the other recruits can be moved around in order to try them at a different position. CPJ seems willing to offer a kicker when he thinks they are a sure thing, so this guy is probably a good get.

Interesting that CPJ said that. Theoretically, kickers and punters should be the easiest players to evaluate coming in, since it is purely measurable and the level of competition shouldn't really matter. If you could do it in HS, there isn't any reason you couldn't do it in College. It's gotta be a purely mental thing, I guess.

50 yard punts consistently.. how you luv that

How quick you have to get the ball off is the biggest difference. Kickoffs aren't different, but fg and punting usually need a change in footing that some kickers never adjust to.

He's not going to give a ship to just any kicker. He has to feel it's as close to a sure thing as it can be.

Hope he can put it through the endzone on every kickoff too

That is a very athletic punter.

On a more serious note, hopefully Tech can improve their defense to take advantage of a good punter. But being a tech fan I know he will just out kick the coverage and the other team will have big returns.

Wow, this guy is has not even signed an LOI yet and he's already non-rapey Janikowski. Just wait 'til we get our first real football commitment

That kind of hang time should help the coverage team out a bit.... at least, I'd hope.
