Today's AJC lists the Georgia all state teams in all classifications. Anyone on this Ga. list can play serious football because of the yearly competition faced. Congratulations!

Class 7A WR Malachi Carter
Class 6A DB Jaylen Jackson
Class 5A OL Austin Smith
Class 4A DE Luke Johns
Class 3A LB Quez Jackson
Class 2A DB Charlie Thomas
Class 1A RB Tijai Whatley

QB James Graham couldn't make it 2 yrs in a row because of injury.
RB commit C'borius Flemister named 3A offensive player of the year. Here's hoping GT signs this one in Feb. Video looks like a natural Bback fit. Should really help recruit class.

The SEC recruits from these Georgia lists are considered the best in the world. The GT recruits, not so much, even though they are picked from the recommendations of the exact same HS football staffs. It irks me. GT's staff gets these young men, on par with the SEC recruits, but don't get as much credit. No wonder Coach Johnson laughs at the 'team rankings' by the recruiting services. Put our Ga guys with our OL who played in the Ala-Miss all star gm, our LB who played in the Ky-Tn all star gm, 2 very, very good players from Tenn, 3 really good defensive guys from Fla & you have a solid recruiting class.
Here's an example: Jaylen Jackson is a state all star from the classification of the 2nd largest schools in Ga, chosen on par with with several highly ranked big time college recruits, yet he is given as a 2 star player by Rivals. Something is wrong here, folks, & it ain't the GT coaches, facilities, curriculum or other players.

Look at the scheme he’s been playing in. Zero safety blitzes equals zero stats. Remember us blitzing Morgan Burnett? Those were the days (of good defense).

Merry Christmas

He has one more year to try to put it together and become more than an average player. To this point that is all he has been.

I think it was Burnett or Landry who blitzed from about 20 yards back against ND when we beat them 33-3. Landry, I suppose?

He hasn’t developed into a star at this level, so maybe 3 star was accurate. Average player at this point in his career.
AJ Gray was the best player on the defense this season, not at all an average player. Its not his fault everyone around him sucks ass.

I would have agreed with you, but after watching the 2017 GT football team, its clear the there's a substantial talent differential.

I don't follow HS football. Is a higher number less competitive? 1A most competitive, 7A least?

I let the NFL draft tell me the true story of our star ratings. So far, it looks like our recruiting rankings have been fairly accurate. That acclaimed 2007 class produced some quality NFL players, for comparison. There might actually be something to this star rating system.

It’s based on the size of the school. Wouldn’t be fair to have a 3500 student school competing with a 350 student school. 7A are the largest schools.

The star changed because of the team, not skill. That's my gripe
It is a valid gripe, but the change in stars was also valid. Our defense, like our offense, is not built or run to showcase the talents of the athletes we recruit. If Stephon Tuitt were to be signed in this year's class, his 5 star would immediately become 4 or less, because it would be common knowledge in the "recruiting industry" that he would not be utilized like he would be in a Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Clemson system. Even in our successful years, we don't play big time football, because a Tuitt would be flanked by lesser players.

Is that really how it works? There are cases where a guy is a 4-star athlete but a 2-star QB prospect, but if you sign the guy, he is still a 4-star. Justin Thomas was this man I'm referring to, specifically.
