2009 COFH vs. 2017 COFH

I think that 2009 game was highlighted by the fact that the winning team had overcome the largest deficit in terms of fewer games won (4) than at any time in the series. To win this year Tech would have to overcome a 5 game win deficit. Ain't gonna happen. In 2009 they hammered us unmercifully on the ground all game long. That we even had a chance at the end for a miracle was amazing after the beat down they administered in the trenches. I'm afraid they are going to run through us, around us, and past us for all 60 minutes this time.

Fake News

i have never watched the replay of that dropped pass. My mind has convinced me that the pass was thrown too hard and off-line, and Bey Bey had to awkwardly twist his body out of bounds to attempt to catch it.

I still picture Hill heroically catching that prior pass on the goal line and achieving legendary status at BDS. He was hit hard, but almost had it.

öööö off you ass clown. Not bitching at all - just pointing out the inconsistency in the comparison. Not surprised that you lap up this stupidity.
Speaking of laps, your mom is sitting on mine, reading every word you say. So watch your language.

Wait- would we have had a serious shot at the NC game if we hadn't lost to them?

I've never thought about it in terms of what happened in the rest of the NCAA. Refused to think about it that winter and blocked it from memory, I suppose.

No we wouldn't have. Going into the final week of the season there were six teams ahead of us that were all unbeaten. Florida, Alabama, Texas, TCU, Cincinnati, and Boise State. None of those teams would lose during the final week of the regular season. Alabama would go on to defeat Florida to win its first SEC title under Saban while Texas would go on to win the Big 12. Alabama and Texas would go on to play in the BCS championship game under a bit of controversy as TCU, Cincinnati, and Boise State all felt they should have been #2. Bottom line, there was no path to the title game after we lost to Miami earlier in the season because there were so many undefeated teams in front of us and finally the loss to UGA put any faint hopes away.

Unfortunately what none of us knew at the time was the week of the UGA game in 09 was the week that the NCAA investigators was on campus conducting it's investigation into the DT clothes violation. CPJ would later say that everyone's mind was so off due to to the investigation that he was worried about how the guys would play in the game. Looking back, it does make sense as to why we played so uncharacteristically bad that night.

That's right, I forgot about Texas. I looked over every conference but the Big 12, and thought we'd have had a shot. But we wouldn't have with the Fighting Colt McCoys ahead of us in either case.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. Before the UGA game in 2009, we were the highest ranked one-loss team in the country. The six undefeated teams ahead of us were Florida, Alabama, Texas, TCU, Cincinnati and Boise State. All of them had games on COFH weekend and/or championship weekend, and a loss by any of them in those games could very well have set them behind us (if we had beaten UGA, obviously). Moreover, I think it is entirely possible that a convincing victory over UGA would have moved us ahead of a TCU, Cincinnati or Boise State, even if they hadn't lost. All of them were in G5 conferences and all of them had weaker schedules than we had. (For example, our SOS at year end was #17; Boise State's was #50.)

Anytime you've got a loss, you've got to depend on other teams losing to get you back to the top. But in both 2009 and in 2014, there was a not-ridiculous chance that a few teams ahead of us would lose, and we'd be playing for the NC (in 2014 bc we only had to be top 4 to keep playing).

Ultimately, that's probably the most impressive thing that can be said about CPJ's tenure at GT... twice it was conceivable on the last weekend of the season that we could be a NC contender. That's the kind of hope and fun and excitement that really makes for a great season.

Every time I get you all hot and bothered, your response is like everyone from the Hive co-wrote an insult.

says the dipshit who trots out 100-yr-old "Yer Mom!" responses?

The Hive banned me because I don't swing off Johnson's sack the way you do when it's not otherwise resting on your chin.

At COFH in 2009...

GT was 10-1, ranked #7 in the land, excited about the ACCCG, and nursing hopes of a shot at the NC.
UGA was 6-5, unranked, nowhere close to the SECCG, and looking forward to some minor bowl (Independence, it turned out).

GT was favored but lost — the first time ever that a ranked GT team lost to an unranked UGA team. Still the bitterest loss in CPJ's tenure, IMHO.

GT is 5-5, unranked, nowhere close to the ACCCG, and hoping to get a chance at a minor bowl (perhaps the Independence).

Seems like a great opportunity to continue the replay of history in reverse.

Once upon a time, there were three bears that lived in house in the woods. A papa bear, a mama. . . . . . . . .

Are you sure you didn't get banned because you are histrionic and annoying?
