the bees are for the athletes who commit, more than for the fans, to draw attention to them. So they accomodate the athletes however they want. So expect the bees to precede a commit tweet by a little bit.

Correct. We actually set that kick return up. The previous kickoffs, Lee would run to the far side of the field where all the blockers were. On this kickoff, all our blockers ran to the other side as they had previously but Lee, instead of following behind, shot himself out of a cannon and, as you say, ran untouched for about 99 yards.
