2nd Half of Season Prediction Thread

We are going to have to somehow find a running game or we will lose a lot the rest of the way.

Can't leave the defense on the field, lose time of possession in every game and expect to have many wins. If Smith can play he should be playing. If he can't play, we need to take some auditions from anyone else on the roster. Haynes is a great little back but he can't carry the whole damn load. Cooley ain't the guy.

I'm serious, there has to be someone with some size and strength that can carry the rock on this team.

GA Tech Halfway Team Stats
Total Offense: 431.2 YPG (#43) [ranked between FSU and PSU]
Scoring Offense: 30.8 PPG (#59) [ranked between BYU/CSU/GSU and USF]

Total Defense: 434.3 YPG (#114) [ranked between USF and CMU]
Scoring Defense: 29.0 PPG (#880 [ranked between ILL and AP State]

Teams Played Rank Tot O and D
Louisville: #20/ #26 [L 39-34]
SC State: #73 (FCS)/ #52 (FCS) [W 48-13]
Ole Miss: #12/ #83 [L 48-23]
WFU: #69/ #39 [W 30-16]
BGSU: #122/ #52 [L 38-27]
Miami: #7/ #9 [W 23-20]

Easy to see the outliers here.
We lost a tough game that we could have won on opening night against Louisville.
We lost a game that we were competitive in for 3.5 quarters against Ole Miss.
We blew a totally inexplicable game against BGSU.
We won a game we should have won in SCSU.
We won a hard-fought game against a conference peer Wake.
We stole a game against a higher-level team (though not sure how much higher) in Miami.

Bottom line is we are right where most thought we would be, but the disappointment of what could be hangs heavy over us. Woulda-coulda-shoulda might say we're better than 3-3, but in reality, we are what we are... a .500 team.

Second Half Schedule
BC (3-3)
UNC (5-0)
UVA (1-5)
CU (4-2)
SU (4-2)
UGA (6-0)

The second half of the season offers both opportunities and challenges. Looks like we finish 3-3 from the outside, but we'll see how it plays out. We can do better than that if we avoid bad losses and can knock off another higher ranked team. You have to think/hope one of UNC or CU will fall to the Jackets.

One last note...
Here's our schedule so far:
Louisville 6-0
SCSU 2-3
Ole Miss 5-1
WFU 3-2
BGSU 2-4
Miami 5-1

Just makes the BGSU game even more of an enigma.

Kyle Efford, unfortunately for the offense he may be our best LB. I’d like to see us use some 2 back sets and do some lead blocking with somebody who enjoys being a human wrecking ball

Efford was a FB in HS, right? It wouldn't be too taxing on him to play in 3rd/4th and short.

Effort. Effort is almost always the issue.

But in the case of BGSU, there was an obvious schematic deficiency as well. Cost Thacker the DC job.

Remains to be seen which of the remaining games Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde shows up to.

At end of day 6 to 7 wins including potentially against a few ranked Opponents would be a positive outlook for this season. If we get into a bowl game and win even better for the eyeballs. You have a majority of your offense/defense returning next year plus transfer portal opportunities a big chance to build upon this season and really get GT back to the perennial upper tiers of ACC football

So what is it about the matchup that makes you think we will beat Syracuse? We are a solid underdog there.

Have you seen who they’ve beaten? They have lost badly to the only two decent teams they played

I'm really surprised BF hasn't put us into two TE sets really this year. He may have done it in the first game against Louisville but I haven't seen it. That would give us extra bodies on the LOS for blocking for sure for any run design plays.

Our TE’s are not good blockers, would be better off to put two more guards in

I sure hope we can finish with 6+ wins. If we finish 5-7 and the BG and Louisville games keep us out of a bowl that will be ashame.
