2nd series.....

It seems to work pretty well for WVU, Texas and others. Football coaches are constantly reinventing the game. It just goes in cycles. The D takes things away and the O figures out how to beat it.

I agree w/ mover that the line played better this game. I was pretty hard on the line after Troy but against UVA we had sustained drives and 1st downs.

Anytime we can get FIRST DOWNS I will give the line credit.

I also agree about Choice NOT hitting the holes. When Evans in the game it is even more obvious. I hope this is something he can work on.

I thought UVA had an interesting defensive game plan. After Reggie's big day against Troy they were committed to shutting the QB draw and they were committed to shutting down the run at the corners.
They did not attack at all across the line of scrimmage and just kept LB's at home and the field spread.

As a result, what they were giving us was the deeper pass plays, particularly the post. Credit Nix, Ball, and Calvin for taking what they were giving twice. But, if we fail to execute those two passes, our offensive night would have been pretty unimpressive.

I wonder if others will see the tape and use similar approaches.

This may be a loaded question but yes, I certainly do expect that the instant 5-7 yard schoolyard qb draw will be taken away until we can be reliable in attacking the corners, and down the field.
Of course, we will be facing much better coaching that will be able to do that without leaving CJ basically wide open.

Of course if they commit to stopping the run and doubling CJ, somebody else will be open. That's when we find out if Reggie has learned how to run an offense.

Also, if you've read the thread, you know that we also are running Reggie on an option handoff/keeper when he reads the DE, not just the draw. It's the same play that Texas and WVU run. So the schoolyard draw isn't the only play we're running.
