Is that what Clemson is currently paying? They definitely getting their money's worth in football.
Someone's very delusional in this crappy economy. I'd take a million.
I'm sure the Rockies knew about how much it would take to sign him before making the pick.
Last year's #26 was Eric Arnett (RHP). He signed for $1.1 million. The closest OF prospect was #25 Mike Trout (CF). He signed for $1.2 million.
To earn more than $3 million, you had to be in the Top 6, and that didn't guarantee it. #4 Tony Sanchez signed for $2.5 million and #5 Matt Hobgood signed for $2.42 million. To earn more than $1.5 million, you had to be Top 10. The only players to make more than $3.5 million were #2 Dustin Ackley ($6 million) and #1 Stephen Strasburg ($15 million).
In short: Parker will probably not be offered even half of what his father is asking.
Andrew Brackmen got 4.55 million as the 30th pick a few years back. You can get however much you want from any slot in the draft. You aren't slotted into money.
I don't see how he has any leverage at all. He's not an NFL prospect ala Jake Locker or Joe Mauer. The Rockies will pay big (over $2MM). The players have the leverage here. Drew (the Boras Client) didn't lose any $$$ when he didn't sign and came back a year later. Didn't Austin Jackson get about $1MM in the 2nd or 3rd round? Supply and demand. Parker can play and the Rockies or someone next year will pay.
what a moron. like he has any future playing in the NFL. he's one injury away from relying on a Clemson degree for employment.
Yikes! Clemson degree! The Rockies should wave that in his face and offer him $55k per year. When he mentions the NFL to them, they should cue up our two games against him last year.
