3 games in 13 days a big factor?

The fact that the September 17th game @Miami will be Tech's third game in 13 days, compared to just 2 for Miami (whose last game was on the 7th), has been mentioned in just about every preview or prognostication I have seen about this game. Some have cited this as the reason we will lose. I'm sure that Miami does have an advantage here, but I would be interested in reading some informed ST opinions about just how much of a factor this is going to be. Just how hard is this going to make it for us to win?

It will be a factor, but not a very big one.

Our guys will be well-rested. They've had a week. If anything, I would have been worried about tiredness at the Clemson game.

I'm more worried about turnovers being a factor. I like the fact that we're passing more, I just don't like HOW we're passing. Instead of getting a few yards here and there, we bomb it 20-40 yards and Nesbitt's accuracy goes down with distance. I think we'll iron out the kinks here and there, but Miami has had a lot of time to prepare, and we're still losing the turnover battle.

We played well against Clemson for the first half, but we need to finish the drill better. Miami (especially @ Miami) is gonna be tough, but exhaustion won't be as big a factor as people think.

I think it's a huge factor, and I am going to find God this week and begin praying for the health of Josh Nesbitt.

Half of our team looked absolutely gassed in the second half of the Clemson game.

3 games in 13 days makes things seem worse than they really are. Using the same counting methods, if you play 3 Saturday games (happens all the time) it is 3 games in 15 days. Oh no, 2 days lost, run for the hills!!!

The big factor is that Miami has 3 more days to prepare than us and we are playing an away game.

In the end, if we play our game, we win. If Nesbitt makes horrible reads like he did in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, we may lose.

But back to the point. Your phrase 3 in 13 is very misleading and bordering on making an excuse for us when it is normally 3 in 15.

We only get 3 fewer days to prepare since they played on the Monday before our Thursday night game. I think we might actually have an advantage by having played 2 games to work out problems and get experience at the start of the season compared to their one game. They may be a little better prepared and rested, but I doubt that it will affect the outcome.

I was worried about the fatigue factor for the Clemson game, too. And for good reason. We had guys dropping like flies in that one.

This!

GT has had 2 full speed games, MIA has only had one and it was a week and a half ago.

I also don't expect GT to be too fatigued. They have a week to rest and Paul Johnson knows how to balance the tired factor in.

Trust me, a 2 day turn around will seem like an hour this week then GT actually gets a full week to prepare. They'll be ready!

If I can completely recover after a 2.5 hour difficult and vigorous workout in six days (I'm 43), I'm sure these young athletes can recover in less time. I don't think fatigue will be a factor at all.

+1

I think the fact that miami has had more time off after that big win actually helps us. Just hear me out.... When we beat UGag we had plenty of time off. We also had everybody and their brother telling us how good we were and just gonna show up and beat LSU. We faced a more physically gifted team(yes fellas they were) that was also playing with a chip on their shoulder and we got pounded.

Well there is a lot of praise flying around the miami program. ex. "Da U is back!". I truly feel that this praise is something that is premature and will cause them to be mentally unfocused. Especially after we let Clemson come back and make it close. They are viewing us as weak and lucky.

We are now the team that is playing with the chip on our shoulder, and Miami is the team that thinks they are world beaters. I am not sure if we a more physically gifted, but we are motivated and better coached. I am gaining confidence with every person that picks against us and every miami fan that says "Da U is back".

PJ will have them prepared, and I feel if we get up early the "Foot on the throat" PJ is looking for will come in this game.

Have confidence fellas, we will not show up unprepared.

I'm glad that there has been some crime around the GT campus in order to be prepared for Thug U. Never know when a knife fight might break out.

Hold on Tonto, do you also do 3 more workouts during the next week? Point is they recover right after weighlifting the next day to get that lactic acid and soreness out. Problem is CPJ offense won't allow for 1/2 speed practices. Now, it's not going to be balls to the walls every part of practice but believe me it's still draining to the players.

Adrenaline will get them started and then hopefully winter workouts and summer running will bring us home the win.

I'm talking about just one workout, say legs. I also workout 3 to 4 other times a week. After a leg workout on Saturday, by day six (Friday) my legs have completey recovered. Keep in mind I'm an old fart.

If I'm not mistaken their practices are less intense now that the season has started and more focused on preparation.

Ah So! I gotcha. I don't know about the practice being less intense though, you may be correct on that one.

Isn't the normal Saturday-Saturday-Saturday playing 3 games in 15 days? And the short week from Jax to Clempsen is already behind us.

Appreciate all the feedback. (Remember, I didn't make up the "3 games in 13 days" phrase or contend that it's a big deal; I'm just asking why it's out there as much as it is and if there's much to it.)

Maybe to the prognosticators and media types, our Sat-Thurs-Thurs sequence, because it is more unusual, somehow seem more grueling than the Sat-Sat-Thurs schedule (also 3 games in 13 days) that isn't all that uncommon.

I'm much more concerned about whether we can get to Harris and keep him from throwing to open guys all night.

I think that I read that Miami started back practicing on Thursday. We started back Friday. So basically, they get two extra days of practice. (Thurs and Friday) They get an extra day of rest (Tues and Wed) and we get Friday. I would assume that they are practicing against their scout team at full speed. (If not, then God help them) In other words, there may be a little advantage but not that much. However, just to note that we had a lot of time off before Miami last year. We played UNC on the 8th and lost badly, then played Miami on the 20th. In other words, do not expect us to come out like we did last year.
