34 FSU players... rotfl

Just what we need, an ACC team throwing a bowl game, against an SEC team no less. By the time ol' Jimbo gets that 'locked in' head coaching job, Bobby will have run that program into the ground.

36, although that includes injuries (and nobody is being specific about how many are injuries).

As Corso often says, "Not so fast my friend."

On ESPN there was talk of Jimbo going to West Virginia, despite his agreement with FSU. He would have to pay big just to talk to them. But he might figure that HC job at FSU might not be such a good deal if an NCAA penalty is looming (their speculation, not mine.)

What would you do? I might take the hit and go coach in WV if WV gave an indication the job was mine.

If ever there was a case of 'lack of institutional control', this would appear to be it. NCAA, are you listening or will you once again turn a deaf ear in the direction of Tallahassee?

If WV really wants him they will help pay his buyout, and yes I would go. Papa Bowden wants to take the FSU program to the grave with him, and it will have to be rebuilt with new competition from UCF and USF, and maybe even FAU. Each year they don't produce, the two ACC programs in Florida are digging the hole deeper. The last thing FSU needs is probation, they are already handicapped with the head coach.

That's amazing. I thought the initial 20 was a ton. 25 seemed like a monumental jump, but 34? My God. There's no way Bobby Bowden is around after next year. Absolutely no way.

And we thought that the Free Shoes University fiasco was some kind of a big deal... apparently that's not even worthy of being on the radar for the 'Noles....!

Amazing to me that the timing is just before their bowl game that this kinda stuff gets noticed.
Was this a product of NCAA or FSU?
Doesn't really matter I don't suppose but if it is NCAA, why now? why not earlier?
And:
If South Fla is to be the school that allowed the renegades that the bigger schools could not let in due to academics, then why just FSU? Why not S. Fla?
Now I'm starting to think again that South Fla is really that good and they didn't have to take what couldn't get into FSU, UF, and Miami.
Something to ponder I suppose.

I'd be ready to put money on it. One more year AT BEST. I don't imagine this will be blowing over any time soon.

I'd be careful when making fun of FSU on this one.

Remember...we had 10 guys flunk out and then we recently landed on NCAA probation because of progress towards degree issues.

On top of that remember the episode we had where hundreds of IT students were suspected of colluding on their programming assignments...

This FSU thing appears to go beyond just the student athletes...I am getting the impression that the student athletes were only part of a wider issue that involved regular students. That wouldn't make it much different than our IT scandal some years ago.

I don't think all 34 are scholarship players. That might account for the difference in numbers. IIRC, 25 of the 34 were scholarship players.

1 - If you read between the lines, this was probably the reason the previous AD left before his contract was out. (Last year)
2 - If this was going on now, you have to expect it was going on during their glory years.
3 - The fall out may be Jan Kempish in reprecussions.
4 - NCAA may come down hard with lack of inst. control.
5 - Jimbo may be wanting out.
6 - Maybe why Chucky Chest said the things he did about academics at NcSt.
7 - This may dim BB's legacy and it shows he should have left several years ago.

Well, before we get too carried away with our conspirarcy theories, everything I've seen points to one class only. Sounds more like a tutor who got carried away and a professor who isn't paying attention than a vast scheme to keep athletes eligible. If evidence comes out that it's been a) going on for some time, or b) involves more than one class, I'm more inclined to think that it's an isolated incident.
