3rd Tier

We may be sloppy but few teams have been to a Bowl 10 yrs in a row,any bowl.So we are not first tier but third?

We need to get our payola program in line with Clemson's.

That's...an interesting list. Personally I would put us in the second tier; it's very clear that our success is comparable to or better than many of the teams in the second tier and below those of the first tier. However, every one of the schools on the second tier have one thing in common: a rabid fanbase and a great gameday experience. We just don't have that, at least not to the degree that an Auburn or a Virginia Tech does. He said in his opening he was relying heavily on "prestige", recognizability, and overall "aura". That's probably why he put us in the third tier(though I can't say I see how Colorado is up there and not us).

It's hard for me to imagine someone who's opinion of Tech I could possiby care less about than Stewie.

UCLA? Off campus stadium and hardly a rabid fan-base. Colorado? Averaged less attendance than us last despite larger stadium.

I really doubt that Clem(p)son or Washington has greater national prestige than us.

Yeah I definitely agree about Colorado, especially with the way they've been playing.

Clemson though...I went to the Tech-Clemson game last season, got there Friday, saw 10,000 people at College Gameday, tailgated all Saturday all over campus, then went to a solid-clad orange stadium that had one the best atmospheres of any game I've ever been to. You just can't get something like that at Tech...we can't even get everybody to dress in all yellow. Washtington I know nothing about.

There's definitely a lot of dubious choices in the list(namely, Colorado and probably Washington), and people who could've been higher(us) but to me the epitome of what probably causes him to rank us in the third tier is the half-empty stands of the bowl game we played in last season when the stadium was within driving distance. Bottom line is it's a ranked list, and people will always disagree on bubble teams, and we're definitely on the bubble between bottom second tier and top third tier.

Who gives a crap what this asshole says?

He's a douchebag of the highest order among the likes of Bark Madley and his articles continue to prove my assertion true.

I'm with you, Gator.

This kind of article is worthless. Let's make a BCS bowl and then see how much this d-bag cares about "aura."

I would love to see him try to explain how a so-called "Third Tier" team made it to the Orange Bowl. What a POS.

I don't necessarily disagree with your argument in principle, but can't you put together a better argument than "this guy is a douchebag/a**hole/etc?

I think everyone on this board thoroughly disregards Mandel's opinion. He's biased against Tech anyway since the free Varsity hot dogs debacle.

Yes I can certainly think of other words to describe this guy, but honestly those do the best job.

So if you disregard Mandel's opinion, why should someone have to put together argument against it? Just asking.

Maybe I should have used the word "commentary" instead of "argument". I'm not saying you have to make an argument, but I'd just prefer to see something besides calling someone a douchebag (whether they are or not) when you disagree with what they write. Whatever, just my opinion.

Colorado's a definite head-scratcher. They're in arguably the weakest collection of BCS teams in the nation, the Big 12 North. They went 2-10 last year, losing to a D-IAA school, and they weren't exactly all that great in the years before. I guess Mandel still thinks Colorado is in the big 8.

How does GT's record compare to Colorado's since 90?

Did you guys read it?

It is not tiered based on performance, more on name recognition and program stature. Alabama and Penn State are both in the first tier.
