#40 on selling merchandise?...

Looking by who is number 3 on the list, I suppose they included sells at Wal-Mart, thrift stores, and yard sales. We drop dramatically when that is added into the equation.
 
I hate to say this, but this chart demonstrates why the Red and Black clothes at stores outnumbers the White and Gold. The demand is what drives availability. Some have never understood this and think store should provide Tech and UGA merchandise in equal numbers. You'd have to be from Mars not to realize there is more demand for the Georgia merchandise. It is just a fact... but it's okay. We are who we are, and its a source of pride to me for us to be somewhat of a small brotherhood. Our family is a bit more selective.

Doesn't surprise me. One walk into Wal-Mart, and I see four complete whole shelves of UGAg material and one very small section of GT stuff in the corner of one.

I thought they were exclusively UGA and have not seen any GT products...

Well, it was a very small section, so I guess it doesn't count. Plus all the shirts were either XXXXL or child sized. I need to buy some new shirts though, none of my old ones fit me anymore. However, I am too poor at the moment.

Was it the one on Howell Mill in ATL? I could understand that one because it is the closest to Tech of them all (as far as I know) but I don't go to that one often at all.

You would think the CEO would put his foot down and make some changes...
 
Stop complaining. It could be worse.

I went to the Binghamton Mets team store and do you know what they had in the window? A signed picture of Derek Jeter. In a Mets team store.

I'd understand that too, but no, it was in Alpharetta (or at least the border of it and Roswell).

I think the Howell Mill Wal-Mart is the best one I've been to though. Nice atmosphere, at least to me. Can't wait until I go to Tech...

Seriously...we're bitchin' about this.

Look at what UGAy's done the past 10 yrs....3 BCS bowls...avg 10 wins since Richt got there....largest fan base in the State and possibly the South.

Give me a break. We're going to post complaints about this and people are bitchin' that it says "student sponsored White out on the tix"

Give me a break....we've got people in our stadium who just wear yellow which is gay. Get off your cheap asses and buy a new shirt

I for one buy a new polo every year (which ever Gold or White Coach's polo is new for the season). TECH GRADS are superior according to most on here and thus should be more than able to buy a new shirt with all the $$$ that's guaranteed to be earned with that Ga Institute of Technology Diploma. Shouldn't be a problem to fund yourselves with $40 - $65 for a nice new Performance (easy to breath Clima Control) Polo by Russell or UnderArmour....maybe even Nike

Come on folks....spend a lil money and quit bitchin' about where the hell we're ranked nationally on how much school related merchandise and apparrel we sell

I agree with this but you can't ignore the fact that UGA has twice the undergraduate population as Tech which leads to twice the Alumni population. On top of that GT has all the out of state and foreign students who leave after graduation. In fact the exclusiveness of science and engineering jobs compels a large fraction of even the in state students to leave the state.

Add to that all the redneck bandwagon fans in the state of Georgia who relate to the cow college and you get yourself a huge majority. Even if Tech starts winning national championships and UGA goes a decade without a 10 win season I doubt GT will ever sway more than 40% of the state to its cause.

This has a huge impact on sales and always will. You might as well let this one go. I will continue to buy GT gear but not with the belief that my actions will directly bring equilibrium to the Wal-Mart college section. I just love Tech and want to proudly show my support.

I hear ya, but listen to what you just said. They've got bandwagoners that go out and spend the $$$ to wear their colors.

We've got 30,000 people in a game and I bet 1/2 have on new duds. And for those folks who move on after graduation, there's this thing called the internet where you can order anything related to the school.

The simple fact is that A LOT and quite possibly the majority of people both grads and non-grads are too lazy to sport some new Tech Stuff...whether it's a bumpersticker, license plate, tshirt,etc.....but yet, they get on here and they're GUNG HO.

I'm happy to say that although I was accepted (I wanted to get away for a couple years and come back, but decided that I was content graduating where I went) I'm a proud Tech fan and support the fan base with new material year upon year. Meanwhile, the wishy washy patheticly dressed Tech Fans in my section are sporting the original bar hats (you know....GT and under it Georgia Inst.of Tech) and a Tee shirt that looks like it came out of the same pile as a "Eagles and Chicago 1978 Tour" Tee shirt.

I mean sooner or later you have to call a spade a spade.

I hate, despise, can't stand 85% of UGAy fans....(the rest like my younger brother and other educated and knowledgeable fans that know a thing or 2 I can deal with and respect their opinions) but atleast the aren't afraid and are proud to spend they're janitorial, DOT tar layer, professionally unemployed wages on the latest and greatest merchandise
 
I seem to recall us being ~20's and I think that was around the final four years. When you see Dook and UNC it makes me think that our slip in BB may be the big lag on sales

That's what I'm thinking. Our basketball is probably killing sales.
 
One factor that many don't think about is that most Tech grads are engineers. We're anal retentive about saving money and being efficient. We use the same shirt year after year because it looks good, and does its function well. We use the same hat year after year for the same reason.

georgie doesn't have that problem. They've got to have the latest and greatest. We know that the old stuff is just as good, if not better.
 
I no longer buy items in any color but white or gold - which makes it about impossible to buy anything. Target has a couple of GT items, all in blue or gray. The sweat jacket wouldn't be bad they sell if it were gold. I'd probably get one then. I get plenty of blue or gray or black or bright yellow items as gifts. They generally get worn around locally, but never get worn to a game.

I just don't see anything anywhere in our school colors out there that I would wear to a game.
 
If GT competes for a national championship the next few years and gets a streak going against UGAy, sales of this stuff will take off. Then, you guys will complain about all the new bandwagon fans coming out of the woodwork.
