Never forget, they did not play LSU or MSU or Alabama that year. The only top 5 team IN THEIR OWN CONFERENCE they played was Florida and they needed the biggest fluke play in their history to beat them. The other 5 teams they played in conference had one .500 conference record among them (not ABOVE .500, exactly .500) and none of them had an overall record of .500 or above.
